How do people watch HD movies?

Cool!! I'll admit it's been awhile since I've streamed Netflix. I would assume the newer 1080p setting would be better and of course, consume WAY more internet data to do it! However, I am not sure if it could measure up to BD audio quality while doing it!!???

Why everyone is so quick to blame Netflix, while a bit of legwork might actually fix things. I've already posted good guide on how to get best quality out of netflix (see 1st page) and keep in mind that your AVR might not support DD Plus which is required to get best sound out of Netflix:

The OP is from my home town which uses Canadian Netflix. They may as well be two seperate companies as the services are different. You may have posted a link that helps in the US but that is no guarantee that it works here in Canada. If the OP can watch BluRay, his AVR will definately support DD plus.

Using VPNs for Netflix are looked down upon by content owners (and as result Netflix itself), but technically not-illegal afaik....
That should give you possible boost in quality and selection

I used to do that but Netflix has cracked down and stopped this. I lost access to American Netflix. Dividing the audience into regions in the same continent makes as much sense as buying a freezer in Alaska in the winter season.

Netflix is indeed "cracking" down on VPN users, but it's pretty easy to bypass that.
VPN providers are not stupid - they just keep adding new exit nodes in IP blocks Netlfix doesn't block.

Regardless of this.. Its very difficult to get High Def material without buying it, especially here in Ottawa.

Hey 3db I've seen you around here many years. I never realized you are from Ottawa... Small world!

I am streaming in Dolby and not stereo so that is not the issue either. It may just be Canadian netflix. My AVR is more than capable of handling the various digital formats.

Holy sh!t you're internet's fast. Roughly 6.5x faster than my 83.5 Mbps. I know Verizon offers a 500Mbps rate, which roughly 62.5MBps so almost as fast as yours, but that's $269.99/month. Sounds like you should be downloading stuff with zero issue.
I pay like 60 - 70 a month. I don't know how accurate the speed test is but I think it is more than capable.

What have you tried using to stream Netflix? If you've got an app-enabled television, the Netflix app there might be capable only of stereo. One person on this thread writes:

Another poster on that thread quotes a Netflix support tech as saying the Netflix plugin for MCE, the Silverlight plugin, and other browser-based streaming is also forced downmixed to stereo. He says:

So, @moves, since it's probably not a problem of bandwidth, could it be the player that resulted in your negative experience? If not, then avast yeh skallywag.
I am using a PS4 so should be no issues.

I was just poking fun at you since you're downloading and uploading in Mbps and you wrote MBps. :D

Not knowing anything I thought MBps and Mbps was the same. Bits and bytes, right? ones and zeros? It's like computer guys aren't human. I'm just waiting for you guys to start communicating through telepathic clicks.

Anyway I couldn't get that dsl thing to work. It said no server or something but it got me to look at my white list on No Script. My g/f is not allowed on the computer anymore. A defrag, restart and disk clean are what I got out of this so far. Thank you.

Still trying to get that pic to post:

I wrote MB (acronym for mega byte my bad) but it's MEGA BITS not Byte..... 8 bits in a byte.

Depending on what error code you're getting you need to go into the settings and change the number of streams. If it's an error 11, that's the same one I was getting and I reduced the number of streams from 32 to 1, then upped to 4 and eventually landed on 16 I think for the test I posted.

It said no server. I tried disabling ABP and allowing it in NS but decided to happily forget it. I did change my playback setting from auto to high as per BSA's link. Then I spent 45 minutes figuring out that I didn't want to watch anything anyway. If American NF is this bad can you imagine how hard the Canadian version sucks. You get color, right? :D

Try Internet Explorer or if you have windows 10, Edge browsers.
Supposebly you could only get 720p on Chrome/Firefox

Vudu's UHDX movies are pretty close to BD. Best quality I have seen in streaming movies.

I don't think all streaming devices are created equal. Since migrating to Windows 10 and using the Windows 10 Netflix app, streaming video and and audio is better. Not having to use Flash is a big improvement.

So what about when my Samsung TV or Panasonic BR player get the NF? Is that Flash? I set the thing for high def and that was cool for a day. Now it wouldn't hook up at all so I set it back to auto and it works. I can't wait to cancel this POS. Windows 10 would be great if I wanted to buy a new computer to browse their sh!t assortment of offerings or if I wanted to watch their 1 star 30 year old programs on my computer monitor. It's not easy wasting $10 per month but these as$holes are making it happen. F^%&.
