And the rest of the word? Humanity itself? Conquer.
As an entity of a people- it's hard to use 'race' because people come & go in many parts of the world and by being generally isolated from much of the world that has been civilized for as long as the Middle East, Europe, Asia, etc, we (as a country) haven't interacted with them for even 300 years. In the 1600s and 1700s, the Colonists did, but the enemies came to North America, more than the Colonists going to them, although not all battles were near the shoreline- plenty of Naval activity and battles in the Atlantic, from the Bahamas to England & Ireland. A distant relative fought the British around/near the Bahamas and was captured, then returned in a prisoner swap. He was captured a second time, imprisoned in Cork, Ireland and that's where he died.
One of the things that annoys the hell out of me is when people attribute bad behavior and practices with the US and the Colonists, as if the bad was born here. It all came from Europe, although the treatment of slaves in the US Southern states took it to a whole new level. Then, the attitudes never died out.
