I doubt WW3, but we are VERY close civil war here in the States with crap going on in Minneapolis.
When you have people like this...
...confronting people like this...
...you certainly have a recipe for conflict.

Seriously, I have no life.
Now that I think about it living in Canada wasn't all bad.

I take back all that sh!t I said about their favorite sex position being doggy style so they could both watch the hockey game.

I like hockey. :D
I have heard it's the same in Southern US states, but they're watching NASCAR.

How a civil war works without particular borders....or is a city vs non-city thing that's envisioned?

The Swedish military (NATO) have shot down a Russian drone heading towards the French aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle in the port of Malmo Sweden. The Russian drone was shot down six miles out from the presumed target the Charles De Gaulle. This aircraft carrier is the largest vessel in the French fleet.

This article says the drone was "jammed". Unclear as to whether it was brought down, or not. Regardless, just another day of Russian shenanigans.

Just a detail; 'reported in the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar and in Dubai '; whoever wrote this does not seem to know that Dubai is part of the UAE.
The naval base in Dubai has been struck with a lot of smoke going up. Apparently most missiles from Iran are being intercepted, but as usual not all.

This is war on a large scale, and so I fear not likely to end soon.

Trump as usual worries me. Airforces and navies DO NOT hold ground. So it is very unlikely to get the results Trump think it will. Only armies and troops hold ground. Iran is surrounded by mountains and has defended against invaders for millennia. Not sure Trump would understand this as he never reads anything crucial or important.

The invaders over millennia didn't have aircraft and guided weapons. Snipers have hit their targets over more than 2 Km and the US took out half of the Iranian navy in one day- they would have to be insane to believe they can defend against most countries but really, this shouldn't be necessary.

Ironic isn't it? Trump promised never to involve its country in foreign battles and now we see Trump in cahoots with Netanyahu (a leader who in his own right has created a holocaust for the Palestinian population and would like to wipe them out instead of having a 2 state solution) in his 2nd campaign against Iran. I first want to make it clear that I do not support the Iranian leadership and what it has done to its people is an atrocity. That being said, Trump against warnings by the Arab nations and a few senior US officials not to engage Iran like he did, listened to Netanyahu instead and chose to go in. Its unclear what Netanyahu's secret goals are but I think there is far more to it than a regime change for Iran. This is reckless of both Trump and Netanyahu. Trump has now mired the US in a war that will last much longer than both of these asholes could have imagined. Putin, Trump, and Netanyahu are all of the same ilk, make no mistake about this.

I think his chances of a Nobel peace prize just vaporized.

I was watching the news late last night because I was working when they first announced it. My coworker in India had mentioned it earlier in the day, saying they are hearing an attack was imminent.

Those things still don't occupy territory. Saddam never gave up and had to be dragged out of his rat hole, which required boots on the ground. I don't expect the Iranian regime will be in any hurry to quit either, considering that a similar fate would await them.

I suspect US and Israeli forces will just blow up a lot of stuff and urge the Iranian people to rise up.

None of that changes the situation. Meaningful change will not come about without boots on the ground. It never has, and never will.

All these arriel attacks will degrade their capability, but will not change the basic equation and put the real work off for another day.

After brutal attacks it is unlikely a peaceful democratic regime will appear. Chances of that are 1000:1 agaist at least.

So meaningful change can only come by restoring peaceful and stable governance. It is overwhelmingly likely that will require boots on the ground and a functional civil service. Nation building is not something the US is renowned for.

So here we go again..full circle. Another irony...

The following is an AI summary.

The Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown in the 1979 Iranian Revolution due to widespread outrage against his repressive, autocratic rule, rapid Westernization, and perceived corruption. A broad coalition of Iranians—including religious leaders, students, and merchants—united against his reliance on the U.S. and the brutality of his secret police, SAVAK.

Key reasons for the overthrow included:

  • Repression and Human Rights Abuses: The Shah's security apparatus, notably the SAVAK, suppressed dissent, leading to massive dissatisfaction.
  • Anti-Westernization and Cultural Backlash: His rapid modernization policies, termed the "White Revolution" were seen as undermining Islamic traditions and Iranian identity.
  • Perception as a Foreign Puppet: Many Iranians viewed the Shah as a "puppet" of the United States, especially following the 1953 CIA-backed coup that bolstered his power.
  • Economic Inequality and Corruption: Despite oil wealth, rapid modernization created inflation, economic disparity, and corruption scandals within the royal court.
  • Rise of the Opposition: Ayatollah Khomeini mobilized the religious populace through mosque networks, uniting disparate groups (leftists, nationalists, and Islamists) against the monarchy.
Ultimately, a series of strikes and massive demonstrations in 1978 paralyzed the country, forcing the Shah to flee in January 1979. The military’s declaration of neutrality on February 11, 1979, allowed the revolutionary forces to seize control, replacing the monarchy with an Islamic Republic.

That's a good thing. I wonder now if Trump realizes he may need to put boots to the ground to prevent ISIS seizing power in Iran like they did with Afganisitan when the US pulled out. Trump and that other f?ck Netanyahu don't realize what they just did. No clue.
