I would say more passionate then argumentative. What do you difine music as? You say Hip-Hop is not music? I would say music is a bunch of sounds put together by an artist.

Definitely listen to many genres all in the same day:

Among my favorites are...

Sting, Bebel Gilberto, Pat Metheny, Morrissey, The Smiths, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Chopin, Mozart, Debussey, Rachmaninoff, Vladimir Horowitz, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Cure, The Cranberries, ABBA (gotta love the remastered "Visitors" album), Boston, Counting Crows, Phil Woods, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Dire Straits, Everything But The Girl, Basia, Madonna, New Order, Sarah McLachlan, Spyro Gyra (all of their old stuff), Steely Dan, Toto, U2, Thievery Corporation, Zero 7, Lemongrass, Kruder & Dorfmeister. Also like house, drum & bass, SOME techno (I'm really picky on that), and other assorted dance music.

Basically, genres I prefer are jazz, brazilian jazz, classical, pop, rock, house/dance, and alternative.

I'm not your typical 24 year old... I listen to every genre. Probably developed an appreciation and like for all genres of music due to my piano/saxophone/clarinet/composing/arranging background.

I have all of the CDs I own on my iPod, and like to put it in shuffle-play mode, which results in some strange sequences.

I've got mostly rock and blues, but also some jazz, some latin music, a fair amount of reggae, some classical, and even a few Broadway show soundracks. For that matter, I have a couple of comedy CDs stored as well.

(It's strange to have a Seinfeld or Rodney Dangerfield bit come up during shuffle-play, or one of the songs from my "Spamalot" soundtrack CD. For that matter, I have the Beatles "Live at the BBC" CD set, which has little 10 second snippets of "Beatles chatter" between songs. Since these look like separate tracks to iTunes, they come up at random intervals as well.)

In terms of rock, I suppose I lean mostly toward 60's and 70's rock, having "come of age" in that era. Lot's of "new wave" from the late 70's, including punk, ska, etc.

I haven't mentioned rap or hip-hop, but I have put a few CDs from my son's collection on my iPod, just to see if I would grow into it. But to be honest, I just don't like most of the lyrics. To me it doesn't hold up to older funk and R&B, even if some of the riffs have been lifted.
