I hardly listen to jazz anymore since I stopped playing saxophone, but my fav definitely was Charlie Parker. Few have come close before or since, imho.

I have to say I've never really explored jazz a whole lot. What I do have is kind of all over the map. I do have some Weather Report, Spyo Gyra, Yellow Jackets, Miles Davis. Also some Benson/Klugh

Recently been listening a bit to the local NPR jazz station. Listening to that has prompted me to buy a couple jazz cds -

The Ray Brown Trio - Soular Energy
Grady Tate - TNT

Both of which I enjoy.

Lee Ritenour is a personal favorite. His music covers a huge spectrum of style though, not nescesarily just jazz. Anthony Wilson comes to mind also.

Don't have too big of a reference because I don't listen a lot (but I need to, and go to some concerts)
But, I like Diana Krall.

For guitar, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Byrd, and Django Reinhardt. Really like seeing Pat Metheny live, but can't get into his recordings too much. Really dig Russel Malone too, great technique.

I can't make up my mind, so here's a list:

guitar-Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin
piano-Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson
sax-Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Art Pepper, Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan
drums-Art Blakey, Max Roach, Billy Cobham
trumpet-Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker
trombone-JJ Johnson, Jack Teagarden
organ-The Incredible Jimmy Smith
bass-Scott LaFaro, Charles Mingus, Percy Heath, Paul Chambers

I feel like I've just scratched the surface-there are so many high quality jazz musicians across so many different jazz genres, it's hard to pick the best one.
