Since I bought my Samsung A630 LCD Tv a couple weeks ago I'm noticed an odd phenomenon. On certain movies on DVD, there are horizontal coloed bars through the screen - mostly seeming to tint the picture alternating purple/orange. This is only on a few of my DVDs. I have a Panasonic A110 DVD player circa 1998, and all the DVDs in question seem to be from around that same time as well, with one notable exception - I just opened a copy of Pocahontas for my daughter to watch and the bars are back. All the affected discs have been THX, but I have a few older THX discs not affected. The issue is very pronounced (at least to me) and is really annoying. Of the movies I've watched so far, here's a tally of what has the bars and what doesn't: With: Titanic, Pocahontas, early Indiana Jones trilogy movies. No bars: The Fifth Element, Transformers, Indiana Jones/Crystal Skull, Twister, Journey to the Center of the Earth. Age doesn't seem to be an issue as there are several discs in both lists over 10 years old, and as I said earlier, all the affected ones are THX certified but a couple of the discs above without the problem are also THX.
What gives? Is something wrong with my TV or DVD player? I didn't have these bars on my old Sharp CRT.
