Horizontal bars on Samsung A630?

Since I bought my Samsung A630 LCD Tv a couple weeks ago I'm noticed an odd phenomenon. On certain movies on DVD, there are horizontal coloed bars through the screen - mostly seeming to tint the picture alternating purple/orange. This is only on a few of my DVDs. I have a Panasonic A110 DVD player circa 1998, and all the DVDs in question seem to be from around that same time as well, with one notable exception - I just opened a copy of Pocahontas for my daughter to watch and the bars are back. All the affected discs have been THX, but I have a few older THX discs not affected. The issue is very pronounced (at least to me) and is really annoying. Of the movies I've watched so far, here's a tally of what has the bars and what doesn't: With: Titanic, Pocahontas, early Indiana Jones trilogy movies. No bars: The Fifth Element, Transformers, Indiana Jones/Crystal Skull, Twister, Journey to the Center of the Earth. Age doesn't seem to be an issue as there are several discs in both lists over 10 years old, and as I said earlier, all the affected ones are THX certified but a couple of the discs above without the problem are also THX.

What gives? Is something wrong with my TV or DVD player? I didn't have these bars on my old Sharp CRT.

I heard somewhere that older DVDs have this issue and some people end up repurchasing them. I never really learned anything about it.

Btw- Way to go working that junker DVD player with a nice brand new TV.

I'd hardly call it a junker...first generation, yes, but top of the line back then, and it still plays beautifully (this one issue notwithstanding...).

OK, good, so everything points towards this NOT being an issue with either the TV or the DVD player? Excellent. Everything else I can work with. Thansk guys!

You might also check your video connection.
He might offend his amazing DVD player if he does that. He should rock the old player and DVDs and hope the problem goes away. Forget what everyone says about that player being old, finicky and unreliable... Process of elimination is boring, esp when you start with the DVD, then the cables, then the player, and so on. His Panasonic was top tier in 1998 and the DVDs didn't give him any trouble on a Sharp CRT. He might as well avoid the hassle and just replace the Samsung with something else.
