Seriously, I have no life.
We live in WI on the WI/IL border. Property tax is reasonable along with house/auto insurance, and health insurance with FULL PAID coverage. Supplemental health, also includes, eyes with full coverage, some co-pay with hearing aids, and some dental. Two free teeth cleanings every 6 mo. We have no complaints. We are 81.

Life is good and our son and daughter families, are there for us, along with other close family, around us. Loads of benefits being surrounded by family and the first to help. YUP, Life is Good.

Note: I sold our then new 2006 Mustang, 3 weeks ago, for asking price. I held off as long as I could. lol
Your property tax is reasonable because you're not in a major city or zip code that's full of idiots doing stupid things. I'm in the latter and the Mayor of our small city has contacted the state and USPS, to change the Zip Code so insurance costs will decrease. If I lived in the Zip Code across the river, my auto insurance would be 35% lower.

That is absolutely correct and in Rock County. My sister-in-law lives Dane County, the furthest south of Madison, in a home in the country, and her taxes are astronomical. We have Acuity Home and Auto Insurance, WI based company. Cincinnati Insurance company might have better rates. Our insurance agent is local.

Wife was raised in Shorewood and me, Whitefish Bay. After I got out of the AF in 67', my first civilian job was in Brown Deer, Badger Meter, Production Control Scheduler. 79' we built our second home and moved to Racine. 2005, moved to Janesville, WI to care for in-laws and retired late 2008.

Back in the late 60's thru 78' we and the kids ate at Kopps. Wife and I, sure miss Kopps burgers, fries, and Malted Milks, Last time, we were back, was around 2015.

Sorry, Stole this thread....All I can say is, we live in a WI. rural county, with the largest city having 70,000 or so, where we live.

We shopped around and ended up dropping USAA auto insurance for the first time in 25 years. Went with State Farm for both auto and home which resulted in pretty big savings on both.
Same here in Colorado Springs, Matt. USAA for 30 years. Switched last year to SF. Saving $3K/yr.

I just got my own first IR camera:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3DZV19P
I've spent my 3 years in the army fixing laser distance measurement and night vision devices.
This little gadget is much smaller, cheaper, and FAR exceeds anything I've touched in the army.
I confirmed one of the worst heat-losing spots in my home and planning to fix it asap.
If you going to buy it - make sure you select the right version. As in both port and Google Android or Apple IOS. They are NOT cross-compatible.
I don't need this, but I want one. I've got some cold spots I need to investigate. I don't think the folks that put the blown in insulation in did a very good job.

Interesting. I've had State Farm for a VERY long time, but I've considered moving to USAA for homeowners because of how much faster they seem to get things done around here. Granted, this is coming from the in-laws, so grain of salt.

I had some fun with Acuity, then I switched to Allstate. I always pay for sewer & sump backup and when the power went out in 2010, I had 6" of water in my basement but fortunately, no sewage> When I called to file the claim, I was told that if the water came up through both, they probably wouldn't cover it. They did and I switched after the check cleared. I refuse to pay a company that just has to have the largest American flag and pole outside of their expensive HQ- policyholders receive absolutely no benefit from that.

Was Barnaby's there when you lived in the area? Kopps is still there and still good, right across the street from McDonald's. I don't drink sugared soda, so a cheeseburger with fried onions & fries or O-rings from Kopps is less than a QP with Cheese meal and far better. I'll send some burgers, if you want- they offer shipping of their custard on the website. Very expensive, but if ya gotta have it.....

Did you go to the stereo store at Bayshore? That's where I got my start in audio after working at a music store at 60th & Silver Spring. If you went there between Feb, '78 and April, 1988, we may have met. PM your last name, if you want.

My annual premium went up from $2700 to $4300 in two years with USAA. Switching to State Farm for the same amount of coverage I got it back down to $2900. USAA has always been good to us for past claims but not enough to eat a 60% premium increase.

For both home and vehicle insurance, it's always good to shop every year.

For instance, two years ago the car insurance premium for my 2019 Honda Civic was reduced from $1800 to less than $1300. This car was the fourth most stolen vehicle in the greater Montreal area. That was the best offer even with an added tracking protection.
