Anyone else feeling the pinch of increased property taxes and insurance the past few years? We just got our new assessment and our mortgage is now $500/month more than it was two years ago. (Colorado)

Put it into context, my military retirement used to cover my entire mortgage, now it's $400 short.

Can't imagine what you guys are going through in Florida.

My taxes in Florida have ballooned but so has my value, so I'm good but our Missouri home has lost 150k in three years, frustrating.

Our value has more than doubled (we couldn't afford to move into this neighborhood now), but that is of little advantage when you don't plan on selling anytime soon. I mean, if this keeps up we may have too....

I certainly understand the dilemma, hopefully your decision isn't forced.

Yes, my property taxes have gone up. So has homeowner's & auto insurance, not to mention health insurance.

The only thing that's gone down is the $$ I pay to Big Oil to run my car – gone down to zero. In comparison, recharging at home is cheap.

I'll take what victories I can!

Are you planning to sell the house in MO? If not, is that really a problem?

I would be more concerned about insurance in FL and proximity to the water- my friend has a place near the Estero River and nobody wants to buy in the area because of the hurricanes.

I am grateful that my prop tax can only increase 2% a year.
We need a depression for things to come down in price.

Something has to go up in price to fund government if other things are not taxed by a state or minimally.

I don’t own, but my local property tax hikes have been crazy the last couple years. 32% more than 2 years ago. I wouldn’t buy here though way too risky.

She's gone now and he wishes he had kept it but he bought a tear-down next to a friend's place, cleared the land and is in the process of getting bids for septic and well. He retired as a Sr Project Architect, so he'll handle design & engineering and some of the construction.

What's the difference WRT lifestyle, real estate costs and cost of living compared to Orkansas? Just more teeth in the average resident?

So, you don't like hurricanes, but you want to move 47 miles from New Madrid, home of a seizmic zone?

I guess if the house is built on a foundation that allows movement, it could be interesting. I have actually felt tremors in the Milwaukee area.
The extremely low amount of snow is definitely attractive- I have decided that snow removal is a colossal waste of time and money. OTOH, if someone has the equipment, they could make some decent cash if people are willing to pay for removal. I don't rake leaves when the wind is high, either.
