Holiday Sales Frenzy: HD-DVD Players as low as $99

Given the fast pace of technology, timing and speed might be crucial for survival of the formats. If the general public takes too long in adopting a format, it just might go the way of the dinosaurs. The other side of the coin suggests that unlike the beta/vhs war there are more players involved (more capital) and the majority of corporations seem to favor one format over the other, nonetheless LD was very promising, but the public never took interest, it became a niche for a very short time then DVD did it in. Same can happen to high-def DVD, the next big thing coming down the pike might pique consumer interest and that'll be the end of high-def DVDs.

Early shoppers beware...
I made a concious decision to get to Wal-Mart at 7:40 knowing I was risking being a little too late, but I was in time to be about the 14th HD-DVD-searcher in line with 15 HD-DVD players available. To make a longer story shorter, they separated the line between people who wanted different things (Laptops etc) and then let about 5 from each line in at a time. Yea, didn't make sense to me either... you guessed it.... without hand tags/slips/vouchers (to keep people honest) people got in there and bought more things than they told the "line lady" they wanted... the last player was sold people BEHIND me in the original line but who got into the store first because they were earlier in the laptop line.

No big deal. I should have been there sooner, but it's a warning to the chances you take between now and Black Friday. The store doesn't really care how the things get off the shelf fairly, they just want to control the chaos. They acheived the latter and failed at the former. Much to my chagrin. Bummer. So close.

So, you selling those to the highest bidder here? Or on Ebay? Or just doing a service for some of your audioholic friends?

:D

That Best Buy deal for the A3 is good in store as well, I was just there. $199, 2 free discs, 2 in the box (300 & Bourne as mentioned) and the 5 free mail in. Pretty good deal.

Everybody knows that ol' "J" Money there has an HD flat panel in every room of the house, even the bathrooms. Might want to catch a different HD-DVD movie in each room. It really does require a little different type of entertainment while cooking dinner versus sitting on the bathroom throne.

MajorLoser is all over it. With my PHAT Audioholics salary, I have more panels around my house than an airport terminal. And every panel needs HD content being pumped through it...

Just a bunch of haters out there. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

(You still have to catch up to Gene and his Xbox 360 in every room)

I often buy more source components just to fill all the remaining inputs on all my displays.

Imean, what's the point of having three HDMI inputs and two HD component video inputs if four are left empty? That's what they're there for, right?

Duke,

What are you getting at.:p
Nah, you would laugh at how much I paid for some of that stuff.
As well, 2 players will be sold on eBay (and will have paid for themselves);)

Do you have a HD player yet?
Let me know, I would be glad to send you a free movie.
(I have doubles of quite a few)

For me it's rack space. If there is an empty space in the rack, I add a component so it looks cool. It's all about lights and displays filling up the rack. Who cares if I am out of inputs? I just want the rack to be full....
