HK AVR235 vs Pioneer 1015TX

I'm still trying to decide on recievers. I know the HK is a quality product, but I was thinking that maybe the Pioneer is a better deal. I've found the HK for $350 new online (not referencing eBay because stuff goes fast on there). I've found the Pioneer for $407 shipped on eBay.

Which would be a better bet? And is it worth it to void my 1 year warranty with Pioneer to get a good price?

I'd pay the $90 for the warranty. That Pioneer seems like such a great deal. I'm as curious as heck, how do they get THX certification and keep the price down? Oh well. I think the Pioneer is a better deal than the 235, but you did mention the Ebay shop. I'd keep your eyes peeled. If you can snag a 435 or above within budget I'd go that way, otherwise I'd go Pioneer.

I assume since the 1015 is an Elite 52tx with a few features missing Pioneer was able to use the certification obtained for the 52tx. The stuff they stripped out would have no impact on the THX cert.

I got the 1015tx Brand New for 393.00 shipped. Please check my other posts as to feelings on this receiver. Just posted about my speaker set-up and this receiver. And have many other post about this receiver. Its great, imo.

You must've voided your warranty. I've checked, but all the authorized online Pioneer dealers sell at MSRP, even OneCall and JR.

Where did you get that awesome price? I might have to go for that, unless I can find a great deal on a 435 on eBay.

If you are speaking of the 1015tx price. I got it at link below. But I have done a search, and you can now get it cheaper at other places. I did get it NEW/SEALED with warranty card inside. And like my WD HDD's I have bought from places that do not claim a warranty through them but rather a full manufactures warranty. What I have found from the manufactures, is that as long as the serial number does not come up as a refurb, then they will honor warranty. Actually in the case of Western Digital, you can check the status of your serial number. To see how much longer of the 5 years is left, and if you have sent it in for repairs, etc....

So just when you buy a new piece of merchandise, its a good idea to fill out warranty card (make a copy for your records), and send it to manufacture.

oh yeah heres my link, but as stated there are cheaper places to go for NEW equipment. This place sells New and only a small amount of refurbs. They will clearly state in the title if its a refurb....

Great, thanks for the link. $381.03 shipped is a damn good price. And at only $31 more than the AVR235 I was thinking of going for, it's really appealing. Hopefully that deal won't disappear before I get the funds.

Most unauthorized audio e-tailers tout similar claims. These claims are about as worthless as the owners of these businesses. Contact Pioneer -- tell them you just purchased one of their units from PCPlus.com and want to know if Pioneer will honor the factory warranty. Dollars to donuts they'll tell you no.

I'm not saying they will or won't, what I should have said is MOST companies will honor a warranty as long as it has a clear serial number. This is like the dead lcd pixel thing. Some will replace with a few dead pixels, others won't. So Pioneer may or may not. Actually, I will contact them and say I had a button fall off and see what they say, when I show them my serial number my original warranty card and my purchase slip.

Also had a small problem with my Optoma projector. And at 2137.00 with a msrp of 5999.00 Optoma had completely exchanged my projector, I do not believe the place I bought was an authorized dealer. But I may be wrong. I remember saying to them, that I could exchange through the company I bought from within 90 days. Or go through you. They only wanted to see a purchase form for the date of purchase. They honored it no problem, and I got another Optoma projector free of all charges. Their response was, as long as it is within 90 days they will give a new exchange, over 90 days they will have to send it to there repair dept... (speaking of Optoma)

Actually, I just went to Optoma's web site, and the list of authorized dealers did not include where I bought mine. Humm, wonder if theres another list of smaller e-tailers & other small companies???
