Hi guys!

So i just purchased my shiny new PS3 today, took it over my buddies house on the way home and played on it a bit on his 50" Samsung DLP Via a 1.3 Belken HDMI and an optical cable with no issues.

I hook it up at my house via HDMI and Optical and I only get sound. I swapped the HDMI cable over to my DVD player and it worked fine. Then back to the PS3 and no image. I tried using an older Monster HDMI cable and a brand new 1.3 1080p Belken HDMI cable. Neither worked on either HDMI input.

This leads me to believe I am having a handshake problem. What on Earth do i do besides return the PS3 or buy a newer TV?

I also have a Toshiba AD H3 in the mail that I now am worrying i will not be able to play with.

What do I do when there may be handshake issues??

There are 3 possibility. How long is the HDMI cable you were using?
Do you have this issue going direct to TV or pass through the receiver or both?
How long was the cable at friend's house?
At times either the TV needs a stronger signal or the signal gets weak over a longer cable?
So, it is a detective type of work to find out.

Belken is 6ft. This is the same one i used at my friends house.
The Monster is 6ft.
The cables go from the PS3 to the TV.
I found out my old monster ps2 component cable fits in the ps3 jack, but does not send a signal. Possibly because it was setup for HDMI at my friends house? I wonder how i would reset that?

I just put the PS3 A/V Composite cables in and they do not give picture either. Looks like I am stuck with the HDMI settings with no way to see them to make changes.

AH HA! Looks like i just wasn't googling for the right issue! I checked out how to reset the video out put...

Hold power button for 5 seconds to put into standby mode.
Hold power button for 10 seconds for it to cycle from power to standby.
Turn back on again.
It works!

Well that was a lot of stress for nothing! thanks mtrycrafts for waking up the hamster inside my head!

No problem but what works? HDMI?
Yes, that 6 ft cable would not be a problem. In the past though one has reported the TV would not work with a 30ft cable but did with a short one. So, some TV sets do need a higher signal strengths it seems.
