So my friend got stuck dog sitting for his sister, well just about the worst happend. A comercial with a dog in came on the new 56" Toshiba DLP and the dog went nuts. Aparently she ripped the screen, so now we dont know what to do. Is replacing the screen possible, a DIY project, pro only? Is there any place in particular in the chicagoland area that anyone may recomend? ANY help in the matter is apreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

What is the model # of his TV?

Just looking at a Toshiba 56HM195 (just a guess here) you can get to a screen "part", linked HERE.

Not sure how you replace it or whatnot, but there must be a way.

I hope.

This story made me slightly ill by the way. My own dog repeatedly goes towards the screen whenever a dog appears on it. We are trying to curb that behavior, it is getting better.

Yeah Im not sure the exact model of the TV, I will find out though. Yeah the whole Dog near screen idea scares me too. I dont have a dog yet, but when I do it will NOT be alowed near the TV. His sister kinda lets the dog do whatever it wants, including attacking the TV when dogs are on it. Sad sad stuff indeed.

I was reading on the net somewhere last night of someone who ruined their screen by using amonia based glass cleaner...

They ended up calling Toshiba (I think it was toshiba, I can't remember) and it can be replaced. The total cost of the screen replacement, including labor, was right around $600.00.

:(

If you like, I can get hold of some friends from an un-named country and get a fine recipe for dog. ...tastes just like pork.

And, what miracle answers did you expect?

Have him call a repairman and have his sister pay for it. Odds are there's a lot more than one part involved.

Sean - I've got a car, and the engine is making a funny noise, I need some help to fix it - is a DIY project?

You see how that question doesn't provide any real information that can get me an answer, even from people who may be experts?

1. What is your technical expertise? That is, when you go up to the display are looking at it trying to see how to take the screen off? At this point you aren't going to really do MORE damage to it by pulling the screen off the display, so try to figure out how the screen comes off.

2. You've already been asked for a model number - so provide it. I have a Chevy is not the same as saying "I have a 4 cylinder 2003 Cavalier" - so the model number actually matters.

3. There was a link to the parts for a replacement screen above. Did you plug in your model number to find out how much a replacement screen would run? Odds are good that it would be similar to what is listed.

I personally have seen screens that pop right on/off of displays with just a couple of screws - or even just slide down channels into place quite easily. Others have been bolted in place from what seems like behind and are very difficult to get at. But, unless someone here actually has a Toshiba and actually has had a need to pull their screen apart, then you aren't likely to get that much luck.

So, have you called Toshiba? Have you looked up the model number and seen what a replacement screen will cost you? Have you looked at the owners manual for Toshiba customer service? Their number is in the manual (using a 56" DLP from them for this example that I am forced to guess at)...

Finally - have you asked on AVSForum? While that site can get pretty hectic, there is a much larger pool of people that may have some answers available.

How about little booties for the dog when he's inside? Something soft and fluffy so he can't destroy anything else. Maybe Pokemon slippers.
