My AV-receiver RX-Z7 (Yamaha) only shows "Main On" on its display but it does not respond to the remote and neither to pushing buttons, except for the master on/off. It also doesn't process any signals. Nothing works.

The manual is not of help since it contains no information on this. The AV is only three months old; I've had no problems before.

What to do? Txs.

Try the Yamaha RX-Z7 own thread.

Did you try posting your problem in the "Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review thread"?

* Just a suggestion: Check near the end of your manual in the "Troubleshooting" section. Look for a "Reset". Or just try to put your receiver OFF (Standby), then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, and wait about 5 seconds, and replug the power cord.

Hi Karel,

Then ask your question in the ditto thread, you might find help there.
Sorry that I cannot be of any further assistance.

* You can try calling Yamaha customer service and see what they have to say.

Best of luck, and welcome to the club.

Same issue

While watching a Blu-Ray the screen froze. I changed the input selector on th RX-Z7 and it remained on BD/HD DVD. I then shut the MASTER ON/OFF to OFF for 5 minutes, changed to a different outlet and powered the unit back on. The unit powered on but the units screen/display is stuck on "Main ON". From the moment I bought the unit, it has been protected by being plugged into an APC H15 power conditioner.

I'm going to call Yamaha, but does anyone have experience with this issue and what was the resolution?

Thank you,
Paul

Make sure your remote control is set for the main zone and not for one of the other zones. Also goto advanced menu setup when powering it on and upload the latest firmware via ethernet.

Wow! Those are expensive receivers, so that is a big problem. In my experience when units get known for a major problem, they are essentially a total loss.

Yamaha should buy back everyone, it is the ethical thing to do. I bet they don't though, and when the warranty period is over most if not all customers are going to be out a big hunk of change.

This is unchararcteristic of Yamaha to put out shawdy equipment like this. I wonder if there was a management shakeup within Yamaha that changed their philosphy of quality emphasis to profit emphasis.

Wow the comments here are amazing. There is nothing shawdy about the RX-Z7. In fact its one of the best A/V receivers I've tested hence why it stays in my Family Room reference system powering a 7.1 system in there and 3 other zones all around the house!

It's not uncommon for any product to have issues in the field on a small percentage of units. What is important is Yamaha is backing the product via its warranty. Two months is a bit excessive as I've never heard of this being the case with Yamaha equipment but as long as they are taking care of warranty claims....

Maybe I over reacted just a little  . I just don't like seeing the consumer having to wait so long for what turns out to be a problem with the manufacturer. Maybe Yamaha should have lowned him a model just to take him through the two monthes.

Speaking of tests, where is the test report on this unit? I don't mean the 1st glance review but the real in depth tests you guys normally do. I

Yep. I hear you there. BTW I have an RX-V1800 and love it. Dependable and powerful enough for my needs.

Thank you everyone and I'll keep ya all posted

Hi Everyone,

Gene - Thank you for your initial suggestions. At the time i was running the most current firmware v1.11 and I did try getting into the Advanced Setup with no success.

Because of my work schedule and the location of the nearest local service center I was not able to drop it off till 7/30.

Today, 8/4 I received a call from the service center stating that it is the processing board and that they need to escalate and send the unit to the Yamaha Regional Service center located in NY. They said typical turn around time is 7 - 10 days and that they will notify me if they find out the time is going to be longer. BTW, I'm located in MA.

I am concerned about this being a chronic problem with the unit. I hope when they perform the repair they are very thorough and replace all components that could have been affected by this failure and that if they know about a design issue that they replace with a "revised/upgraded" component. I have had many Yamaha units RX-V800, RX-V2200, RX-V1400 and a RX-V3800 prior to this unit and none have had any issues. Of all the units I have had, this is the most expensive unit and I would like it to last a long long time.

Thanks again everyone and I'll let you know how things progress.

Paul

Link at the bottom, I love the z7 myself. I have a problem that I think I get lost in the GUI a lot and the night listning feature is hidden and I cannot find it for anything.... My wife would like me to figure that one out. I really don't understand the multi zone functions though. I've never use them on any receiver before.

This review is pretty good!

In case it was missed there is a pull/dropdown menue that has a lot of details.
