Help! Yamaha RX-3800 receiver speaker configurations

During GUI auto set up my front L/R speakers white noise comes out of the surround L/R only. I did a firmware update factory reset I'm pretty good when it comes to the technical stuff. I tried to do a manual setup and no matter what I do I What everything reads correctly I still cannot separate the front signal combining with the surrounds. Any help is greatly apprciated as its baffling​

Is it just coming out of surrounds or both L/R and surrounds (at first you say surround only then you say its combining with surrounds)? You sure your speaker terminal wiring is correct?

The the front left and right coming through the surround left and right, no fronts whatsoever, unless i unplugged everything except front L/R. So I contacted Yamaha and although they don't have a live 24 hour chat I sent an e-mail, They were through the regular 123 steps I assured them that I have a pretty good knowledge of electronics and stereos, it's not the wiring it wasn't the polarity or the GUI on screen settings. So he tried me told me to try a couple things none of them worked then he said his last ditch effort in the advanced menu there's a hidden advanced menu which mean nor the two other people that I discussed this with even knew about and their longtime Yamaha guys in the advanced menu you can go to a thing that says initialize hold the straight button turning to cancel cancel initialization turn off the receiver turn it back on holding the straight button and the power button to go to advanced menu and then initialize all. That did the trick something I wrecked my brain for 3 days for. Are you even asked how is someone like a regular user supposed to figure that out it's not even in the manual he said it's a back door almost like a cheat code. I'm so glad he knew it I was out of options…

Thanks for the reminder why I never do updates. Heard plenty of sad stories like this one on the Forums over the years about people having problems after updates. If everything's working fine, that's all I care about.

A few years ago, the company I work for wanted me to get some security app on my phone. It wouldn't work with the existing OS, so I had to do an update. After that the camera was jacked up, and additional updates never fixed it.

Bottom line, if it ain't broke...

Sounds like a factory/microprocessor reset....or you have one in the manual then a different one in this other menu? Glad you got it sorted....even a soft reset can sometimes fix a glitch (i.e. unplug the avr from power for a bit).

Are your speakers plugged into the right terminals?

Thought I'd ask as it's possible someone connects to the incoming terminals

Yeah how do we get rid of all these spams?

Is it just AH forums or are they hitting other forums also?

I remember when I was a moderator for AH, I deleted a few of these spams. But the amount of spams these days are just ridiculous.

Hey! Andrew, check your Yamaha AVR's when you get home from work. New firmware update just hit again on my a1080. It's 2.16 should be the same for your a3080. Also a new firmware update hit for anyone that has the newer Aventage line its, 2.22.

PS: Don't let, Chris aka "lovinthehd" know, lol he uses them Stinky Denons or is it them always broke down Onkyos. Lol.

OMG! That's lot of work @WaynePflughaupt bet it's the Russians.

Just a note, I to was getting those exact spams in one of my emails, like 10 or more some day's. I'd block them and send to AT&T. Didn't stop them, wasn't till I called into AT&T CS did that stop. She did something on her end.

This is a classic “aha!” moment in tech troubleshooting. Liquid Air was having serious issues with their Yamaha receiver’s audio output – no sound from the front speakers, only from the surrounds. After exhausting all the standard steps and even getting advice from experienced people, they finally got help from Yamaha support who revealed a hidden “advanced menu” with an “initialize all” option. This hidden feature, almost like a cheat code in a video game, fixed the problem after three days of frustration.
