Help with setup/hdmi problem

Attempting to setup the following equipment:

TV: Sharp LC-52D85U
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V663
Cable box: Scientific Atlanta 8300hd

This is my first attempt using HDMI. When I ran the HDMI cable from the cable box thru the Yamaha I kept getting a flickering picture and no sound. The display on the Yamaha was also flickering. When I ran the HDMI from the cable box directly to the tv with out using the Yamaha I received a perfect picture and sound.

Any suggestion on what I may be doing wrong? Thanks

Make sure you have HDMI enabled for video and audio on that output. You might have to use an HDMI 1.3 cable with the Yamaha. What version of HDMI does your cable support? Make sure the resolution of all devices match to start with, then set the display to do the up conversion, if you need to.

Some of those cable boxes do not support repeater architecture. Your TV being an end device is not required to have repeater architecture.

We have had posts before about cable boxes from Scientific Atlanta only being able to be connected to a TV and not a device that also outputs HDMI.

If you think everything is in order, then get hold of your cable company and make them give you a cable box of recent manufacture, that has repeater architecture.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted the cable company and they download something to the box and everything is now working fine thru the hdmi cables.
