Help with NHT 3 vibration

Hi guys,

I'm a new member, this is my first post and I have a problem.

I'm driving a pair of NHT 3s with an Emotiva IPS-1. It sounds great, but the downstairs neighbours don't agree.

They're sitting on B&W two post, 24" stands filled with cat litter. The guy in the store put them on some heavy duty six-pillar stands and I'm wondering if this is what I need to stop the vibrations from reaching the floor.

Maybe replacing the litter with sand/shot would be enough, but I'm looking for advice.

Thanks

There is little you can do about sound transmitted through the floor aside from turning the bass down and/or doing major room treatment. The sympathetic vibrations in the floor aren't the problem, the bass is.

The only thing that might help is hanging them from the ceiling, or putting them on shelves. Other than that, the firmer you anchor those stands to the floor, the more intense the bass downstairs will become.
One of the tough things in communal living is swallowing the pill that your neighbor has a right to peace and quiet before you have a right to enjoy your sound system at loud levels.
I live in an apartment, so I know. I am on the ground floor, mostly to avoid stairs but also to not have the noise issue so much. We have concrete ceilings, and I am on the concrete floor, so the sound stays pretty well here.
I also am on good terms with my neighbors, and constantly ask them about my noise levels. I know which cars are theirs, so I can crank it when they aren't home. If I am having people over for a movie, I pop upstairs and mention that and tell them if it is annoying to call my cell and I can turn it down.

So if I buy some heavy duty, 6 pillar stands, fill em full of lead, all that will happen is the neighbours will get more vibration/bass?

yes, I am most definitely listening in 2 channel, not 2.1 My Emotiva shows this info and I have put my hand under to sub to make sure.

I can feel it go down the stand and along the floor around it.

I'll try reinstalling the spikes tonight, see how it helps.
