Hello, I have owned this Yamaha for a couple of years. Me and the family have never really liked the sound when in use for watching DVDs. I purchsed it because it was reasonably priced... And i liked that it could be used as a pre-amp. I own two NAD 2400 THX amplifiers and use one amp for the front left/right speakers... ANd use the other amp for the center channel. Well one of the amps went dead so now-a-days the yamaha is operated with one amp for the front speakers and let the Yamaha amp drive the rest of the speakers. For the longest time I have used this strictly for music. ( i like the stereo sound, go figure). Well recently we have purchased a blueray player and we have been watching more dvd's so i have tried to get the center channel to sound better. (for what it is worth doesnt matter whether the blue ray or my old sony dvd/cd player). I have worked with and adjusted the speaker level... and tried using the center channel equalizer. All to no affect. Sometimes it sounds OK... but for the most part the center channel never audibly matches the rest of the system; very muddy sound. The speakers are PSB silvers for the front, Silver center channel, and silver minis for the back surrounds. A M&K subwoofer. The cables are mismatched stuff from various systems that i have kept. The front speakers cable and the center channel cable do not match. I have switched in a small booshelf speaker, a JBL, and it was muddy sounding like the PSB center speaker. I am at wits end. All the speakers are hooked correctly into the system; and the system is set at 6 ohms as it doesnt have a 4 ohm setting.
Maybe I have a center channel lemon? I am looking at purchasing something else... but would just as soon get this working correctly. I have not read of any other 5960 owner having this problem.
Thanks for reading; and my apologies for being so long winded.
Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Raymond Paris
