What do you need in a receiver? Just pick the one that has the features you want.

I'm pretty light on features I need. What I want is a product that is ruggedly built and won't break in a year and a half. Does spending more like $500 get me this or does it just give me more features like internet connectivity and such?

Looks like a really nice place. Your kids I presume? I'm just down the road from your Winter place in Eagan. I'm just in Burnsville.

Hows this one look? DENON AVR-891 7.1 Channel 105W A/V 1.4 3D-Ready Receiver | Accessories4less

From what I can tell it looks like older technology, but the MSRP is similar to the Marantz you linked so I wondered if I might be getting into something above Denon's low-end, assuming I'm willing to lose the networking features. I just want something that will be a quality investment and will last.
Yes, that is above the low end, and if it has the features you want, it should do you fine.

I think you are in a price bracket where you can expect fairly decent build quality.

The children are four of our six grandchildren. I'm now considered an old geezer! I actually spend most of my time at the lake in the winter, but come to the metro more often. Our home on the lake is a year round home.

Sounds like a beautiful home up there. I'm on the opposite side of life you are though, I just had twins in December. Perhaps we can connect some time when you're down in the metro.

I think if I'm in the right price bracket for decent build quality I can digest what features I want at this point in a receiver. Just gotta decide how much I want sitting on my credit card. Hard to know what features I'm going to want in three years too is half the problem.
