HELP! No blue-ray on new AVR

Ok, I'm back home now and have time to play with my new setup.
I just got a Denon AVR-3311CI and set it up only for my cable box initially. The tuner works fine too.

Today I tried hooking up my Phillips blue-ray disc player to the AVR. I must be real DAF or something cause it's only 2 wires, power and HDMI. I plugged the HDMI cable from the blue-ray player into the BD port on the back of the AVR. I put a disc in and pressed play and when I switch the AVR to the BD source it changes to BD / Stereo on the AVR display and the TV just displays the words DENON on it. No movie.

I know when it was all plugged directly into just the TV before I got the AVR things worked fine. I thought this was real simple with only 2 wires. Am I missing something here? HELP....I wanna watch blue-ray tonight!

Check the setting in your Bluray. PCM or Bitstreaming Audiophiles. Not sure on the Advanced Set up on the Denon....but match these settings. HDMI from Bluray to Denon, and just switch(on Bluray player) from PCM to Bitstreaming and switch back and see if Bluray gets a signal to Denon.

Thanks.

Ok, finally got it to show something now although I don't think the setup is quite right between my AVR and TV yet as the TV displays DVD mode and something about 'audio will only be from the TV speakers' which is not true as it played through my Klipsch RF-7's fine.

I think I'll try and turn as much of the auto stuff off and manually try and configure things as right now the auto configs are definitely not correct.

Damn old age.....I've never had this much trouble before.

These aren't plug and play. You need to set them up and assign the inputs for all devices.

What did you do to get it to work?

HDMI-handshake has always been a big headache from day one.

I figured you might have to set the display resolution on your blu-ray player to match the TV.

When I had the Sony PS3, it would not show anything until I changed the Dispay Output Resolution on the PS3.

I went through each of the source's on the AVR one by one and when I selected Quick Select 1 which was set to BD it then worked. !? Well at least for the first 5 mins then it like lost the BD signal. Maybe I have a HDMI cable that is shorted?

I would have thought this was plug and play but evidently not. I think I might need to unplug everything, reset the TV and the AVR back to default settings and start over.

A receiver isn't a computer, so no it isn't plug and play.

Did you go thru the check list I emailed you last night???? As this was on the list. re=read my email and email me back.

Hook up the same Bluray player direct to a Tv(like you said you were going to try) but see if it play a complete movie. The player may be going bad or the HDMI on your AVR is going bad.

The Oppo player in my daughter's room is doing that; I have to unplug it and replug the HDMI cable to get it to work! I've been meaning to get another HDMI cable for it.:D

If you have any doubt at all, go to the Amazon website in your account and do a Return. Say it is not working properly. Print the free UPS return label. Then you have about 30 days (??) from the time you print the label to return if you want. They will tell you when the deadline is for return after you print the label. You don't have to return, of course. But at least it gives you some more time to test the AVR.

Thanks man. Yes, I just responded to your email. I've been out running around this morning troubleshooting the issue and now it is fixed. Many thanks LAB3 for your email suggestions, patience and support on this issue.

BTW, as AcuDefTechGuy later stated.......it was the HDMI cable.

As LAB3 suggested, when I tried hooking up the blue-ray directly to a TV in the bedroom without the AVR it initially reacted the same way with no signal. I went out and bought a new HDMI cable and then it worked. I then took it back out into the family room and connected it back up to the AVR using the new HDMI cable and everything works like a charm!

TV, Tuner, iPod, Cable/Sat, Blue-Ray+CD music. Things are great again!

Thanks guys!
