Hi,

I'm building a home theatre system very soon. Small living room (10' x 12'), so bookshelves all around, 9 ft ceilings. Receiver, Denon 5200W.

Door number 1 - Definitive Technology
4 x Promonitor 1000s
Procenter 2000
Supercube 2000

Door number 2 - Pioneer
4 x SP-EFS73
SP-EC73
SW-E10

My cost difference is a wash ($100). Should I try Dolby Atmos now or wait until there's more options on the market? I'll never put speakers in the ceiling so maybe I shouldn't bother at all? I rarely listen to music, tv & movies only.

Just looking for some opinions from folks with the experience I'm lacking...

TIA!

From those 2 choices I would go with Pioneer - however, I would get my sub from
a special (ID) sub company. The Definitive is more like a small satellite speaker.

As far as the Dolby Atmos thing - that is up to you - Atmos is more like a shooting
star to me, I am not waiting for that ride.

What zieg said. You’ll get way more sub for your money from SVS or Hsu.

Agree with the Pioneer, but should also consider KEF R series. I believe the R series do have better measurements, i.e. sound better on paper, if that count.:D

 Mate, you're overspending deluxe on that AVR!

(Based on Crutchfield's new prices: $2000 Denon + $1800 Def Techs.)

For a balanced audio spend in your sized room, aim to spend no more than 20% of your budget on the AVR, or in your case, well under $800. Something like this will be perfectly fine: Crutchfield | Denon-AVR-X3000. Or better still, factory refurbished and a step up the line: Accessories4less | Denon AVR-X4000. This unit has more than adequate power and does a good job of setting up dual subs.

Which leads me to... around half the balance ($1400) on a pair of compact, good value, sealed subs: http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/sealed-box/sb-2000. (Or "Outlet": http://www.svsound.com/specials/outlet-specials/sb-2000-outlet.)

This leaves about $2000 for 5 speakers, which opens up a lot of good quality options. As multichannel music is not your go, bias the spend heavily towards the front LCR. For example:

These are just a few examples of systems that will give you a great HT experience for your money. I'm sure the clever fellas here will have plenty of other excellent suggestions. :)
