Hello, looking for a turntable recommendation for my system.

Thats my rig since 2015. I bought mine used and refurbed from a high end DFW audio store. Still works and sounds fine.

And for anyone who wants to support the economy, U-Turn are made in the US.

They may be- my issue is with US relying on China for so GD much and we have a gigantic trade deficit. I trust Taiwan much more than China. too many brands have been gobbled up by Chinese "companies".

I can see how they can make a profit with models like the NAIA, priced at £9,999 without a cartridge, £12K with and lower than the original at £30K. There's a lot more competition in the $500 range.

The key is to make products that won't be submarined by China, just to make the company into a buyout target. I would guess that REGA and many other brands don't sell enough to interest them. That's not a bad thing if they can remain intact as a company, though. Besides- the US-China relationship is far more adversarial, IMO.

Well, the last turntable I purchased was a Technics SL-5 Linear Tracking unit. I really liked the way it sounded with the system I had then. That TT got passed on to my daughter.
I'm thinking around $400.00, is that realistic?

Interesting! I have the SL-7. Finding a proper needle for the OEM cartridge is impossible. I ended up buying the whole cartridge instead.

Buying a replacable stylus is never a good deal and never has been-even in the '70s & '80s, the dealer cost of a stylus was basically the same as the cartridge and as an Audio Technica dealer, our shipments were usually in a box that held literally hundreds of cartridges (the less expensive models were in very small boxes because they were tossed as soon a they were installed). The more expensive models were in a Teak box. I can post a photo later.

The linear trackers were the first to get the P-mount cartridges, mainly because any setup would be a royal PITA because there was no access on some turntables.

One of the guys I knew in college went out and bought a stereo during late freshman year after seeing what some of the others had. Magnapan speakers, Ampzilla power amp, Son of preamp, Kenwood tuner and Lin Sondek ST-12 turntable with a PlayDoh cartridge (we didn't sell Grado, so we made fun of the small piece of clay that held the stylus in place). When people would ask how it sounded, he just said "Cost me thirty-five hundred dollars".

I liked that turntable.

Yep. The Linn Sondek was the holy grail of TTs back in the late 70s to early 80s. I never had the pleasure of owning one.

I am also looking for a reasonable Phono Stage, I have a Technics SL1500c TT with an Ortofon 2M Blue Cart, am using the internal Phono Stage on the TT but it seems to lack mid range and a tad bright for me, am a bit sensitive to that, I did try the Phono Stage in the SR7015 but the sound stage sounded compressed.
Price wise looking around $600 NZ Dollar its not a lot with our exchange rate.

A phono RIAA stage is a very simple circuit and no magic. You have a really good cartridge. I very much doubt changing a phono stage will make you happy, and spending $600 on a phono stage is nuts.

Usually I find when people are complaining about turntables the issue is that there has been an error in set up.

Setting up a turntable properly is an art, and you need the correct items to do it. Even small errors in set up really degrades the result.
