OK say I have a AV receiver that supports HDMI, Can I then just have the one HDMI cable to my TV and switch from cable to DVD, PS3 ect. using that same single HDMI cable out to my TV given I bring all those sources into my receiver?

Seems to simple.

yes if your reciever says it can upconvert all of those signals from whatever they may be to hdmi. MY guess is it can only send HDMI straight through or maybe change component and digital audio input into HDMI output. Please list your reciever or consult owners manual

Most times it will say it can do analog-to-HDMI video conversion.

Or it will have a listing of each input and what output it can support, i.e.,

- composite input = composite, s-video, component, hdmi output
- s-video = s-video, component, hdmi output
- ertc., etc.

OK. I think I will be holding out for either the HK AVR-440 or 640 since it supports HDMI.

I just want to be sure that I could be capable of bringing in component/toslink tp my receiver, and running out through my HDMI cable to the TV if necessary.

If the specs mention hdmi "upconversion" then it should convert any video to hdmi and send through 1 cable to tv.

hdmi switching means you can input hdmi signals to the receiver and have 1 output from receiver to tv. Not that I'm an expert, but that's what I have gotten from surfing around. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I have an yamaha htr-5890, and any video I input, s-video, composite is converted up to component and sent through 1 component cable to the tv.

Planning on getting a ps3 I see. Nice!! I'm disappointed it won't be released until xmas 06, but I'll wait.

DVI to HDMI hook up confusion

I too am confused. I have a Yamaha 1600 receiver which accepts HDMI, JVC 886 52" which accepts HDMI. I have Media Com cable box which is a motorola DVR that has a DVI output.
I am trying to run DVI from the cable box to HDMI input in the receiver to HDMI in theTV. Then run Digital Audio caxial from the cable box to the digital caxial input on the reciever. So far no good. What I dont know , is what the cable companies disable in these DVR boxes and I did not get a straight answer when I called. Is my hook up scheme correct ? What settings do I need to use on these components tomake it work. I thoguht this would be easy
