HDMI & HDR question...

So, I just purchased my first 4K HDR tv. I also will be buying a 4K Blu-ray player and a 4K cable box. My HDMI cables have been in place in my stand for at least ten years or so and have worked without issue. I believe I purchased them at Monoprice way back then. I had a peek at them and it says HDMI 1.3 on the jacket.

My question is simple - will these cables be able to transmit 4K HDR images or do I need to purchase new HDMI cables? Thank-you in advance.

They may very well work, but if not you will need to purchase new cables. It seems most cables have the bandwidth, but some don't.

I had to update my Monoprice cables to the Monoprice hdmi 2.0 certified ones. They are pretty inexpensive.

Yeah, it's definitely note going to break the bank to update the cables. Just the pain of re-routing them through my entertainment stand.

Your picture is only as good as the weakest link, change your HDMI cables, the cheapest part of the whole system anyway. Go with 1.4 transmitting and at least 10.2 - 18.0 GBPS for best quality. I like Covid, Atlona and Kramer Brands. Covid has nice locking HDMI cables, a little pricier, but saved me headaches in service calls in the past.

Look, a cable has the bandwidth to pass a the digital signal required or not. It is pretty much an all or nothing system. So if you have a good picture changing cables will not make a wit of difference.

All cables have some data loss, yes, even the over priced ones you are touting. So error correction corrects the loss of the data until too much data is lost, then you get nada.

Now when things are operating correctly the error correction results in no loss of quality at all.

Now we are just fed up with people coming here and making misleading posts about over priced cables.

If you want to argue the point, you will get not traction. If you feell you want an argument, then please leave the forum now.

Depends- are you sending the signal through an AV receiver, or straight to the TV? In either case, I would say that you may have problems because HDMI is a buggy system. If it flashes on and off, turn off Deep Color. I can say with certainty that if the cables are ten years old, they may or may not work. That's about as certain as anyone can be- sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. 4K requires much wider bandwidth than 1080.

I installed a Key Digital cable in 2014 and last year, it stopped working. It was a Redmere cable, but it's no longer usable with the changes that have come from the HDMI idiots, so I had to drive three hours to reach the house and replace the cable with one that cost less (a different brand), but it has worked flawlessly since. Key Digital told me the cable wouldn't be covered by their warranty, even though it had failed in less time than their warranty covers (three years). The warranty guy told me that since it has four shielded conductors, I could use an RJ45 to terminate it and use one of their HDMI extenders. Right- he wants me to try to sell the customer on a $300 POS from the same company whose cable couldn't provide the video and who wouldn't honor the warranty. I asked him what kind of hillbilly he thinks I am.

See how this works, Key Digital? You piss off a custom integrator and they post bad things about the experience and your company online, for everyone to see.

He's a clown? I think you might want to look in a mirror dude. He is suggesting custom Install level cables that he feels have been reliable in his installs. Thats what I got out of that post not go buy some high end worthless HDMI cables.

Wow, take a chill pill. The cables from Atlona are $5.00 - $20.00. Not sure why you are so insulted. Locking HDMI cables are good for those who have kids, cleaners, etc., and have the extra $10 bucks to avoid an issue saving money on a simple service call. Nothing worse then driving 30-60 minutes away for an installer just to reconnect a loose HDMI cable. Either the client looses money or the installer. I have made this service call several times because of outside influence like kids trying to hook up their friends PS4 or something to the receiver. Just a suggestion. Have a nice day!

Thanks for the price picture. I tried to check it myself but gave up when it wasn't so simple. Also, it didn't look like they would be expensive at all.
