HDMI Audio Question

I have a Yamaha RX-V2500, which doesn't have HDMI inputs. Let's say I buy an HDTV with 1080p resolution, and I connect my DVD player directly to the TV with the HDMI cable. Next, should I connect the optical audio cable from the DVD player to the receiver, or do these high-end TVs have optical outputs on them to reroute sound back to the receiver? If so, does this impact audio quality in any significant way? Thanks.

Many TVs do have optical outputs on them but why would you want to send the audio to the TV only to have it routed right back to the receiver? The only real purpose of the digital out on the TV is for the case where you use the TV as the tuner (no cable/satellite set-top box) and want to hand it to the receiver to be amplified.
