Having trouble keeping SW on whilst playing LP's

+1 seems to trigger it just fine so far.
On a related note, I have often wished I could reach over and turn down my bass on the sub watching a movie, etc. But if I am on my recliner with my dogs on my lap that is not so convenient. The quick menu is convenient!

Best to control sub thru the avr in any case, generally more consistent for changes than a dial on a sub (altho some of the digital readouts on subs these days would be able to do).

When you originally set the system up with AccuEQ is more what I'm curious about as to how you set gains between avr and sub and what you've done particularly since....

I cannot remember if/what I might have changed since I calibrated. The sub isn't coming on as much as I hoped even after the quick menu level adjustment. Oh well, the La Scalas cut the mustard. I'll just pretend I'm in the 70's.

In that case, if you want to bother, I'd try re-running setup with the sub's gain turned down more than the first time....

Ok! Thx for the great tip. It'd be awesome if it fixed it. I'll run that this week sometime.

Keep in mind many avr setup routines suggest the mid point of the gain on the sub as a starting point, but IME for my consumer subs with typical plate amps it only takes more the 1/4 or 1/3 position YMMV.

Ok, good to know.

I ran AccuEQ with the sub volume at about 1/4 last night. Put on a mint copy of Waylon Jenning's Honky Tonk Heroes and the sub is not coming on. Looks like it's back to the 70's for playing LP's. That's fine.

When you run the room correction, does it cue you to adjust the Subwoofer Gain until you match a specific SPL which the AVR detects?

No it did not. I was looking to see if it detected it. And it said "subwoofer: yes". Also, the sound was fine coming out of it during calibration.
I just now after the Waylon LP put on Steve Taylor's "Squint" from my iPod plugged into the Teac CD player, which has iPod control via USB and the sub fired up at about the same volume. Squint is a rocking record and I wish it was released on LP, but it wasn't. Love to have it on LP. I'll find something else to compare that I have in both formats.

Curious if you are able to view what the Trim settings are for your latest calibration, please? Just Subwoofer and Mains (L/R). It would be informative to know what your setting of the Subwoofer gain resulted in compared to the Mains. :)

Is trim the same as levels? If not, I don't see where to find that. Levels are: front -12 db, center -7 db, sw +2 db.

Yes, Trim and Levels are the same.

Did you manually adjust your Subwoofer Level in the AVR to get that +2 or is that what AccuEQ assigned it?

Also, -12 on the Mains is A LOT! I don't know where your Onkyo maxes its Level setting at, but I do know some brands max out at ±12dB...
With your Klipsch gear, I get why those may be set so low in the Levels... especially compared to the Sub.

Do you have a Decibel Meter separate from relying on your AVR to set levels?

I do not have a db meter. AccuEQ set that sub level.

Some phone apps can work pretty well. It may be worthwhile getting an app if you are interested in looking deeper at this.
I think iPhones are a little better with their microphone technology based on other comments I've seen made debating Android and Apple product....
But you should be able to find a free app that will work OK if you want.

I would definitely turn the Subwoofer Gain up higher in my setup. You would ideally have that in the negative range.

The tricky part is understanding how far off the adjustment is on your La Scalas, whether your AVR Level setting is accurate or maxed... From there you can make more educated adjustments to the Subwoofer Gain (plate amp) and Levels (AVR).

Again, this is only if you are interested in continuing this dive. ;)

Did you end up connecting that Y to the Subwoofer RCA inputs?

When I bought new subwoofers for my HT some years ago I made sure they had trigger inputs just to avoid them not turning on or go to sleep too quickly. That was really annoying when not listening loud.

For my Genelec monitors/subwoofer in our two 2.1 desktop setups I can set both the input sensitivity and the timeout for auto-standby. Subwoofers that have apps for configuration should have this as well.

I just tried the y connector. Then waiting for a bit until the sub was off. Put on a T-Bone Burnett LP and the sub came on right away! Jeez. Shoulda tried that a long time ago. Hopefully this solves it. I also turned the freq contol on the plate to "on" and set it to 60 hz. Does that seem correct?
Also, another question about my RZ50 levels. I changed the sub out to 0 db. But the fronts are at -12 db and the center at -7. Does that seem right? Or shall I run AccuEQ again?

Yup.

I'm not certain what this does on Hsu Subs. Perhaps someone else can chime in...

I would definitely recommend turning the Sub gain up a bit and re-running AccuEQ.
You still have the situation I described above in that your Front 3 are considered to be very sensitive Speakers... With your Mains at -12dB, I don't know if they are maxing out the AVR Trim levels or not. (Some manufacturers equipment is limits the boost/cut range, and some are ±12dB iirc...)
This is why I suggested checking out even just an SPL app for your phone to get an idea of what they are actually doing.
Assuming they are dialed in properly by room correction and your L/R Speakers are each outputting the same level as your Center, then they are good... You just need to get that Subwoofer level set properly. Upping the gain a little should result in getting your Sub down to around -7 - -5dB which is where most systems seem to operate in an ideal setting.
Cutting output costs your system nothing and gives room to boost some where necessary... but if you are already in positive Trim territory, you have little-to-no headroom for boosting when necessary as your room correction may need for balancing the in-room FR.

If it were me, I'd say turn gain to ~1/3 (I think you said last it was ~1/4?) and run AccuEQ again. See where the Sub lands in the AVR's Trim levels.
Then check to make certain your Subwoofer still turns on with the Music Sense feature. ;)
Assuming your Sub Levels in the AVR drop a little and give you more headroom, and your Sub still turns on reliably when it gets a signal, it would seem you accomplish all the goal for a solid setup! :D

The freq control off defeats that obviously when you are in LFE mode I think. Now that I am using the y connector, I think that should be on. So I was asking if 60 hz seems the correct setting.
