Again, that has more to do with tonality than spatiality. The impact of dispersion on imaging or soundstage was not the focus of Olive and Toole's work, and if you asked them about it, they don't really make any strong statements on the matter.

I think you're confusing dispersion with controlled directivity. Listeners preferred speakers with a smooth on-axis response that was also free of significant peaks and dips off axis. A very narrow dispersion speaker could fit that criteria, as could a wide dispersion. They both might have smooth roll-offs off axis--the narrow would just roll off faster. Most of the speakers were in the narrow to moderately wide dispersion grouping
