I’ve been looking at screens for an ultra-short-throw projector, and one thing I’ve noticed is that UST ALR/CLR screens are some of the most expensive projector screens out there.
I’ve come across brands like
VIVIDSTORM, Elite Screens, AWOL Vision, NothingProjector, XY Screens, etc., and the price difference between them can be pretty significant.
Has anyone actually compared these screens side by side?
I’m especially curious about the real-world differences in:
- Black levels and contrast
- Ambient light rejection
- Brightness
- Viewing angle
- Hotspotting / uniformity
- Laser speckle with RGB triple-laser projectors
- Screen flatness and tension
- Build quality and durability
- Fresnel vs lenticular / CLR materials
- Fixed-frame vs motorized floor-rising screens
Some of the motorized UST screens can easily cost $1,500–$2,000+, so I’m trying to understand whether the more expensive screens actually provide noticeably better image quality, or whether part of the price is mainly for the motorized mechanism and design.
I don’t necessarily want the cheapest option — I’m looking for the
best value for money.
For anyone who has owned or tested multiple UST screens, which brand/material would you choose again, and which one do you think offers the best balance between price and performance?
