Has anyone checked out the Droid?

Wife bought it yesterday. Looks pretty sweet. The screen and speakers are fantastic. Call quality was great. Only prob was she couldn't find how to attach files in email. When she selected attachment, it only showed the pictures folder and wouldn't let her browse to another folder. I'm sure there's a way to do it, just wasn't straight forward. Voice navigation with google maps works just fine. Just say the name of a store and the phone speaks turn by turn directions.

I would get it.

Do you have to get a seperate data plan with it like you do the blackberrys?

looks cool and any alternative to having to drink the Apple Kool-aid and install iTunes is worth buying.

But I still can not pay that much for a phone and monthly cellular plan...

My beef with Verizon (for the 8+ years I was with them) was the fact that they were significantly more expensive than everybody else for service, and that they were very slow to introduce new technology.

They seem to have addressed my second problem in recent months with the new phone releases, but they are still wildly more expensive. When I switched to AT&T from Verizon, I cut my wireless bill by 20% each month (the plans were identical as far as minutes and data usage). I don't see a significant difference in service, particularly as far as data speed goes, that justifies such a markup.

HTC has another Android phone coming to Verizon shortly.

I wouldn't buy anything from Motorola either. At one time they were good, but their quality dropped off long ago.

I waiting for the Nvidia Tegra phones to come out as they too will be running Android Google's all powerfull open source mobile OS.

This means 10 hours of HDMI 720p/1080p playback capability on a single charge and completely free apps.

Yeah, data plan is extra. This phone is really cool. I still can't get over how good the screen and speakers are. If I didn't have a company phone, I certainly would get one. There's a little lag flipping from portrait to landscape viewing, and gps is a little slow to start up, but fw update in December should address those issues.

I have Verizon, but I'm not due for a replacement phone till early next year. Maybe by then they'll either have any bugs worked out or they will lower the price.

It's funny you just posted this as I just got back from the verizon store. I'm going to get it online since the 100 dollar rebate is instant there. Got to mess around with it some and I like the touch screen and the keypad wasn't bad, no smaller than my blackberry keys.

Agreed, I find the on-line method may not be as fun as having the unit right now, but you do save money.

Hey Matt, I don't know if it was an introductory thing, but Sears was offering the $100 rebate instantly plus an extra $50 bucks off (I didn't even know they sold phones), and BB was offering the $100 rebate instantly.

Ha ha. Thanks! :D

Here is where I heard the Best Buy thing and it is apparently in reference to pre-orders, but hopefully it is still going.

and here is where I read about the Sears deal.

Also, supposedly you can get it for $120 here - I read if you allow popups and disable all ad-blockers an additional $30 coupon pops up. I didn't try it though.

Of course, when you get it you will have to let me know how awesome it is. I will be getting a new phone in January. :)
