The "The North Pole Arctic Circle" snippet may be part of some confusion. There are roads to the Arctic circle, but none to the North Pole which would be impossible. There was an episode of (I think) The Discovery Chanel on 4 x 4's and some rich guy had spent untold hundreds of thousands dollars modifying two Land Cruisers in an attempt to drive to the North Pole. I don't think he got very far.

.....ok, Nick, then are there flags all around the Arctic Circle that I thought signified the exact center?....this site is dedicated to truth even in the steam vent forum....maybe I'll call out at Maybelline and see if Shane still works there and try again....I don't know, maybe the Goldwings were altered to be amphibious......

Mule, we may be miscommunicating on the difference between the North Pole and the Arctic Circle. The Arctic Circle is an imaginary line that indicates where the Arctic Region begins, the same as a border that separates two countries or like the Mason Dixon and so on. The North Pole is an exact spot indicating the top of the world. You can only get to the North Pole by a very long and expensive plane ride where you get to stay at the North Pole for a few hours before heading back. I am sure your friend ment Artic Circle ;)

The motorcycle riders may want to check out the second link.

"The Arctic Circle is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. This is the parallel of latitude that (in 2000) runs 66° 33′ 39″ (or 66.56083°) north of the Equator. Everything north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south of this circle is the Northern Temperate Zone."

Hmmm, I have a friend who'se spent some time in the Antarctic, and they have a ring of flags surrounding a candy-cane-like pole that they use to snap pictures for family and friends. It's not quite the exact center, but close enough for the folks, eh?

Bryan...maybe you mean "south", instead?

Well the South Pole is over (ice-covered) land, but there are no roads to get there (or gas-stations in all of antartica for that matter).
