Well I just got this email reply from the H/K support team:

"Good morning and thank you for your inquiry. We do not have a full list
yet as the firmware update is not completed. However, the main thing it
will fix is an LFE issue. It will improve video quality and HDMI
stability. It will also add 7.1 LPCM support as well as 1080/24p
support.

Once it is released it will be posted on our website for download. We
estimate it to be released within a month or so.

I hope this helps.

Glad I got my avr-247!

I am not aware of an LFE issue, at least on my receiver. Nice that some companies continue supporting their non-flagship models. Would much rather that this type of updating became the norm instead of offering new models with just a few more (sometimes less) features.

They've been promising this download since November. I wouldn't hold my breath.

It was posted on the 5th of March!

This software update addresses the following issues:

  • LFE output levels now equal regardless of the input digital source or signal type.
  • When the input source connection is HDMI™, the surround mode selection will now react to the first button press on the remote.

In addition, this update package contains all of the benefits of previous upgrades. In the event that you have not installed the previous software upgrade for your AVR, the following benefits are also installed with this upgrade:

  • Improved HDMI connectivity.
  • The display of closed-caption information from analog sources via the S-video outputs.
  • The switching of 1080/24p signals directly from a source to the video display connected to your AVR.
  • The ability to process 7.1 PCM digital audio streams sent to your AVR over an HDMI connection. This makes your AVR compatible with the latest high-resolution disc players.

Where did this update go? I saw it linked on another audio website. It disappeared from there, too. I just picked up this receiver today. I definitely want to update it.

Silly HK. They need to learn from Sony, Toshiba, Onkyo and Denon how to apply firmware updates. Multiple parts? Oy! My first part went fine. However, the video processing part--nope. However, the thing's not bricked. So I will continue using it until I cuss out support on Monday.

Funny, my results were good. Must turn on the unit to update the video processing. An easily missed point, but it is noted in the process. Good luck.

BTW, I saw quicker lock-ons of my HDMI sources. Don't have a 24p capable display or a 7.1 speaker set-up so I can't comment on that part of the upgrade.
