I'm starting this new thread to document the design intent and set up of my new home theater. Please feel free to comment, provide feedback, or question my sanity.

Design Intent:
The intent is to set up a 9.1.4/7.1.6 system to be used equally for music and home theater.

Equipment List:
All items have been recently purchased except for the TV. Everything is still in the box until my roof is replaced this week (hopefully).

Room Dimensions, Listening Positions, and Speaker Layout:
The room is 19' wide x 28' long with a cathedral ceiling 9' to 11' peak parallel to the 28' dimension. Most of the wall construction is exposed masonry brick. The ceiling is wood beam and plank construction. The flooring is tile.

The main listening position is 12' off the front wall. The 9 bed layer speakers are all 8' from baffle to MLP. Subwoofer placement is not set in stone yet (we'll see where the measurements take us). Mains 30°, Wides 60°, Surrounds 90°, Rears 150°. L, LR, R, RR, and C height channels are all 8' from baffle to MLP oriented at 45°. TS channel is 6' to MLP. The intent here is to have the flexibility with the X8500H to switch between 9.1.4 for Atmos and 7.1.6 for DTS:X Pro content.

Some Progress Photos

I finally got some speakers out of the box. My roofing contractor had to replace a ton of boards and plywood, which created a whole new slew of repairs on the inside. Only have the LCR and subs hooked up so far. Took me a very long time to get the monolith subs to produce sound, and I'm having some issues with the miniDSP 2x4HD where the delays and inversion aren't doing anything to the response. I'm tempted to take what I've got and just run it through Audyssey. I don't think my house or the neighbor's dogs can take any more sweeps tonight.

Brian, nice room and equipment. What I'd like to see is as follows:
1. Front Left/Right speaker graph from 15Hz to 300Hz at primary listening position
2. All Subs + Front Left/Right speakers at same location
3. same as #2 but for the other 2 seats

Those subs have huge output down low. I bet you can feel your spinal column shake with LFE heavy movies. :)

Put up the Front and Rear Height channels this week. On a bad note, this ceiling is pretty poor at blocking outside noise. I would have liked to keep it exposed, but it gets very loud when it rains (Florida = Everyday).

Looking into some products from Armstrong Ceilings.
