Getting closer to a decision, I think...maybe...

I'd love to do that, problem is I cannot fit the amp in my space, it's too tall and deep. I need to either keep it under 7" tall and depth doesn't matter then, or it can be up to 8.5" but the chassis needs to be shallower than 17".
Well, you're in luck. The Yamaha is only 6-3/4" tall but if that only leaves you 1/4" of breathing room on the top, it's probably not the best choice. The good news is the 7002 is only 15-5/8" deep. Without the space requirement, I'd choose the Yamaha but given the circumstances where you don't want frills and fancy video, I don't see a problem with the Marantz.

dvd's look like crap on the big tv through the xbox or ps3).
That's something that deserves a new thread. The PS3 should be giving you a pretty darn good DVD image quality.

The under 7” is actually to get under support brackets at the very front and back of the shelf, 95% of the receiver is actually going to have a 2” inch clearance in between those brackets.

I need to give the ps3 a closer look for dvd’s. I may be exaggerating a bit, but I spent part of the weekend comparing the standard dvd of Chronicles of Narnia to the blu ray, and the blu ray is so much nicer looking that it’s kind of hard to go back to dvd without being a little disappointed.

Dang it, was going to wait until today to make an order because I wanted to check with a couple of other dealers first this morning. The 3800 went from $778 yesterday back to $1599 at electronics-expo.com. Apparently I should have placed my order yesterday on that if I wanted it...

I might would do this if I had more than a 3 channel amp but I would have to buy several more moduals for my MPS and I am not putting more money into this amp.
You can make up for it by reading a good review.

In store, at a Magnolia. No 1900/3900, not sure if they will be getting those, but they have the 1800/3800's.

Dont let me scare you away from it if it is what you want. Just note the volume display, the un-assignable 12v. triggers and the active sub in PD mode. The thing has a nice clean look and the amp section seems awesome.

I can't say for sure if it is what I want.
I can get the 3800 for $1099, and finance for 3 years so it’s easily affordable. That always entices me and is hard to pass up.
Or I can get a refurbished Marantz 7002 with 1 yr warranty for $869.
Or I can get a brand new 7002 for $999.
I tried a Yamaha 5490 a few years back and didn’t like it, but I may not have given it a fair shot back then.
I suppose I could try both of them in house for a few weeks and just keep which ever one I prefer. Decisions, decisions. It’s amazing I’ve upgraded as much as I have…
