Someone has to apologize, so I will. So sorry for voting for him. I was hoping for a moderate but alas get your poop passed. $3.49 in my state and that's the average nationally.. WTF is going on in Cali. $4.71??? Yikes. Can remember back in 2006-07 when it reached over $4.

You do realize that the only way a president can directly affect the cost of gasoline is by opening up the strategic patroluem reserves, or declaring war on a gas-producing country, or signing legislation that taxes gas, or placing an embargo on a gas-producing nation? Do any of those sound like good ideas to you? Do you know that oil companies have made many billions in profit for these price increases? And you know what they are using that profit for? Stock buybacks.

Let see inflation, the handling of the border, the way we left Afghanistan, (that was a big one for me) and other issues have me souring on this administration that I helped vote in. Harris has pretty much been invisible, so Joe has been on his own. Well, they have a few years to right the ship so we will see. I hate that their failures are just giving Trump and his cronies ammunition.

I'm with you. I am an independent but lately both parties have let me down. Trump and some of his peeps should be in federal prison but the current administration has been largely ineffective. We'll just have to see where this goes.

Trump can be blamed for many, many things but not oil and gas prices during his term. Gas rose 11% in his worst year in office. Biden is averaging 45% in a year and change. Government policy does have a crucial role to play in the price of oil. You have to pursue a policy of increasing supply to keep the price down.

Gas prices started rising the second Biden took office. Cancelled oil pipeline projects on his first day in office. He (rather the people controlling him) set the tone right away in the campaign by pushing there version of a green agenda. There are so many things tied to the price of oil it escapes most writers in the financial pages. All plastics, transportation costs, fertilizer to produce crops, lubricants (not for her pleasure), Paraffin Wax (covers fruit, sealants in cans and bottles, Insulation for electric wires), sulfur (fungicides, pesticides, pharma drugs), the list is tremendous.

Price of oil goes up and all of the above products and more go up in price. Thank god, Build Back Better did not pass. That was loaded with more regulations that would have increased prices further.

You have the same people to blame for gas prices now that you did before: OPEC. Regulation is not what is driving price up, idiots in charge of oil are and they have been doing it since the 80s. Oil cartels are strangling oil to drive up the price because the demand is lower than ever and the only way they can continue to build cities in the desert and line their pockets with gold is to do just that. Electrification will continue to drive demand down so gas will go up... If you think it is high now, just wait, because it will keep going up, regardless of the US administration.

Regulations are necessary, at least reasonable ones, but they add to cost by reducing potential supply. That's economics 101.

As pointed out policies can affect prices but I feel a more interesting question is Shady what do you feel Biden and Harris have done right?
I'm not saying your defending him but if your asking us what we don't like that Biden has done do you mind some of us asking you in the spirit of inquiry what you believe he has done right?

I know this wasn't my smartest move in participating in a democratic process but I just didn't vote in 2016 and 2020. I just remember being so disguisted in our prospects on both sides of the aisle both elections. I felt what @ryanosaur said about how leaders at the top were just so bad as options. Felt like I'd be voting for the peanut gallery either way and that just really got to me. First time in my life I sat out and didn't vote.
