just asking these two guys have a sound so much alike i was just asking which band you like more?
Good call! And you've just named (IMHO) the four finest rock guitarists living on the planet today. There are other fabulous and soulful git guys, but in the rock genre, it can't get any better.I remember listening to both of them when one of my much older friends told me check them out. I think I was probably 17, and I was really into jazz at the time, but I figured why not.
Whoa dude. I didn't know you could do that with a guitar. Frickin' awesome. I bought the Gary Hoey CD with the monkeys sitting around in the forest on the cover, and then a couple of Satriani records too. I still have the Live CD with Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai.
I like Satriani the best out of all of them. They all sound different to me, and I just like the way Satriani shreds.
You pretty much have to be a guitar player to appreciate the subtleties in their playing. I've never heard Gary Hoey, but Vai and Satriani have completely different styles of shreading. Joe is more Old school Rock, whereas Vai likes to experiment with the sound.I can't tell them apartall the shredder rock sounds the same to me. Its not that its not good its that its too repetitive for my taste.........
I agree - Vai really gets weird sometimes, too weird for me, and far weirder than even recent Jeff Beck stuffYou pretty much have to be a guitar player to appreciate the subtleties in their playing. Most shredders sound too similar to me also but there are a hand full that have a distinguishable sound. Satriani is stunningly talented to me because he is soulful. He plays fast/medium/slow and it's not all about how many notes are being played, but he can play a ton of notes real fast if the song calls for it!I can't tell them apartall the shredder rock sounds the same to me.
