Gallo Reference 3.1 or JMlab/Focal 1007 Be

I have a 5+1 speaker system--all Gallos (3 Dues, 2 A'Diva Ti's, one MPS150 sub), driven by Denon 3806. I went with the Dues for space reasons. I am using the A'Divas as surround.

I would like to use the Dues as surround (and possibly Center) speaker and get new speakers for my fronts.

I auditioned Gallo's Reference 3.1s, which would provide a good match to what I have, but was more impressed with the Focal 1007 Be.

I would welcome advice on these two speakers (or alternatives I did not listen). I would like to stay within 6K for the two front speakers.

Thanks for your help.

At that price point, you have a ton of options. I think the best thing is to take some of your favorite recordings, and start hitting up stores. For non-ID brands, I myself would be very curious about Monitor Audio, Revel, and Dynaudio to name a few around that price. (I use Martin Logan, unideal for HT though).

For the 1007 BE, my opinions/impressions. The treble is much too hot and forward. Sometimes it sounds great, but with anything that might be considered as an old recording (of which I have plenty, all classical and jazz), the BE tweeters can be unbelievably unforgiving, IMO. Extremely prominent, loud, and overwhelming hiss. That, plus its quite poor bass extension would have me looking elsewhere. What I don't understand is that for 6k, however, you could be looking at a pair of demo or used 1037 BE's with money in your pocket. Or at least the 1027s as new. Right? Id still would go with the other lines aforementioned, in my case at least.

I haven't heard the Gallo's. Good luck.

Many thanks, jostenmeat. I also felt the 1007 Be lacked in low bass. A friend also mentioned Dynaudio, which I plan to listen.

Wouldn't you make the same comment re: the treble of the 1027 Be? I understand they use the same tweeter.

You are most welcome. Yes, I would make the same comment about the whole BE line. Thats why I said, "I would still go with the other lines aforementioned". The main reason I mentioned the 1037 is for its significant improvement of bass over the 1007, and even the 1027, while perhaps staying within your budget.

Dynaudio? Prepare to be impressed! I still recommend to hear Revel and Monitor Audio. I know I must be missing other great brands. Just what I would recommend today. :) Oh, ya, B&W too.... used/demo may help you to afford Diamond series....
