Full frequency to a Small Speaker

I should have titled this as Stupid question. I am in fact running full frequency to speakers that are only rated to 49Hz. Zone 2 on my rieceiver offers no bass management. The Zone 2 speakers are in the same room with a regular 5.1 set up, just tucked away into corners because of their larger size.

I'm just wondering what I can expect to hear when I actually get around to putting in a speaker A/B switch to be able to route a crossed over calibrated stereo signal to them.

A while ago at Tweeter I was told that they would be stocking such a switch in the near future made by Niles for $40. BTW I rarely listen to it loud for reasons listed in my sig. Thanks.

Zone 2 is almost always full range; few offer bass management for zones. 49Hz isn't too bad actually, and I would imagine they can handle a full range signal, just don't go trying to send a ton of bass heavy stuff to them. Your calibrated signal is not calibrated for those speakers in their alternate locations, so it may not give you what you truly matched levels if that is what you are after, but they should essentially play more easily once crossed over.

I will figue out what to set the gains at in order to have them matched and just take a minute to change it over when I want to listen to music. The A/B switch will allow me to have my rieceiver send the rest of the signal to the sub. Is it going to sound pretty much the same as now?

EDIT: not a night and day difference, right?

Right, won't be a night and day difference. They will sound the same, but will be able to play louder without strain by not trying to reproduce the lowest frequencies.

Okay, I understand that part of it and appreciate the help.

Now let's say that down the road a ways I plan to upgrade the speakers and drive them with a seperate amp fed by the audio interconnects comming from my AVR430. What would I be looking to get? Obviously an amp and what else to crossover the signal and provide a sub out? Can a sub be fed by 2 different sourses like that so long as they are not both active at the same time? Having to get a different sub wouldn't kill me either because I'm just sort of planning a future upgrade to drool over now.

Unless I miss my guess getting better speakers would be step one. My question is how much better would these speakers sound being driven by seperates and which seperates?

Budget? Lets say for electronics $1500-$2000.

Oops! Wrong forum. Straight to beginners?
