Mikeyj92, that's exactly what I mean. There are numerous reports of people finding the PS3s just sitting on shelves across the country at many retail chains.

I know of people in various locales (Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, Chicago, Duluth, Minneapolis, Jacksonville, St. Pete/Tampa) who are looking for one a few times per week and have yet to fine a single one.

Where are these stories of them just sitting on shelves for a few days unpurchased? I'm not seeing them...

Gotta agree with emorphien. They are all over to be found. And I played Call of Duty 3 in 1080i on a 55 inch TV today. INSANE!!
Again, I say: Where?

I and my friends/aquaintences have yet to see a single one sitting on the store shelves. Not one.

The internet is big, and full of information. Go read. There are many accounts of people seeing them just lying on shelves and being ignored. Your love for the PS3 won't change the fact that it is happening. Perhaps not in your area or where you looked, but it's happening. I'm sure it's been on slashdot and digg, but I may have seen it mentioned on some tech sites. I'm not sure how you haven't heard about this, it came up in conversation on campus with quite a few people since Tuesday or Wednesday when people started to hear they weren't selling.

The internet is big and full of info? No $hit. Condescending additude aside, alot of the gaming forums where these stories reside don't make it through my firewall here at work. I'll have to check at home. And if they are just forum posts, I will read them with the trepidation they deserve...especially regarding gaming systems.

I find it hard to believe that supply>demand for the PS3 at this point when they can't keep them on any shelves in any of the areas I've mentioned. But alas, some shelf somewhere may have a PS3 sitting on it for a couple days before it is purchased I guess.

I've seen Wii's on shelves at a Target (1) and a ShopKo (2), but I have no interest in that system.

My "love" for the PS3? I love no object. Lust, maybe. Hehehe. Although my wife may question my feelings for my big TV.

I just want to own the best overall gaming system and I won't pay any premium to get it from Ebay or anywhere like that...and I can't find any sitting on a shelf anywhere near me.

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE. If you live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, there are may be some on the shelves. I can believe that. If you live in a typical metropolitan area, you are NOT going to find them in stores. I also have not seen ONE in the stores, and I felt pretty lucky to get one in my area...

Since I haven't gotten one offer beyond MSRP, I am strongly considering just keeping it.

just went to lunch here at work

Gamestop on N.O. Traffic way here in north KC had 3 of each in stock
20 and 60 GB.
the store was full....and not a single person was even looking for it.
even with the IN stock Sign on the door

Hit and miss I guess

I picked one up for my neighbor just now (yes he is paying me back) as they haven't been able to find one.
Gave him a call and his quote was "you saved my life"

Hate to know what promise he made...... to his kids :)

Proving myself wrong...

Here is a link to a story talking about how supply is catching up to demand. Particularly bundles of the PS3 system with certain games aren't selling out immediately as they did with the 360 until well after Christmas. I'm sure the fact alot of gamers already have the 360 is putting the kabosh on rampant PS3 demand then.

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/12/21/ps3_supply_improving/

Anyway, just to show I'm no fan boy, I just look for what is factual and I trust this link from Tom's. I personally am guaranteed my PS3 no later than January 19th, so I have decided not to go out looking when I'm bored anymore.

IMO though, I won't think supply > demand until metropolitan retailers have a few on their shelves every day. ;)

The only thing I can think of why this may be happening is the fact there are no games out for PS3 with name recognition that less insane people will spank down $600 for now.

Personally, the only game that interests me at the moment is Gears of War...and I'm not dropping the cash on the 360...yet. Though I nearly did a couple weeks ago before common sense hit me and made me remember I had a ton of presents to buy people...I HATE being such an impulse shopper. :D

One problem is many places are selling only the bundles and with 5 games and an extra controller, that quickly gets you up to over $1k and most people aren't looking to spend that. Even just the core 60g system plus one game is basically $700. There are only a few games out so far, but that is almost always the case at launch.

I went to 4 places christmas eve looking for Wii controllers...none of them had any but 3 out of 4 had PS3 premiums in stock on the shelf.

Walmart (only store that didn't have any)
GameCrazy
EBGames
Gamestop

It probably does depend on where you live, but the town i'm in is about 30,000 in NE Pennsylvania (2 hours from either NY or Philly). None of them were bundled.

In fact 3 of the 4 also had Wii's on the shelf. However, none of them seemed to have any extra controllers, memory cards, etc. That whole section in each store was bare. Apparently they underanticipated demand on those. Which means we're taking turns playing Wii Sports :(

In any case, if you're looking for one, j_garcia is asking a fair price. Someone waited in line a long time for it, and that time is worth money to a person needing a PS3.

I don't want one so badly that I am willing to drive an hour or 2 to some rinky-dink town to try and find a PS3. In my metro area in and around Milwaukee, WI (over 1 million here) there is no such systems lying around.

I can wait for mine to come to me in 4 weeks.

They are popping up in stores a lot more often in metro areas. I know, I live in Milwaukee. Came across PS3 4 times already. First two were only 20 GB systems at two different Targets, remainder were 60 GB - two at WalMart and some at Best Buy. I got mine at the WalMart on Moorland. It is not very hard to find either system if you try. I got my Wii a week or so after launch and my PS3 a few days later. I think they may not be selling so fast because so many stores started saying they wouldn't have any until after christmas right after the shortly supplied PS3 launch date. People started looking elsewhere for Christmas presents.

abboudc - Definitely put in a pre-order for Wii Play - $49.99 Game like Wii Sports that includes WiiMote. I got my 2 extra controllers at Toys R Us. You can also go to places like dell.com and find them pretty easily.

I havne't been looking anymore and haven't been for a week or so now. Since I have one coming in, no need to waste the time or gas. :)

At the Best Buys near me (Brown Deer&I43, Brown Deer&76th and Meno Falls) I have yet to see any PS3's. I'm sure they'll start showing up though.

I also live in the Metro Milwaukee area and I have seen a couple at Toys R Us (Brookfield) and Best Buy (Delafield) just sitting on the shelf. They were only 20gb though but I was there in the middle of the afternoon. All you really have to do is go to stores like Wal-mart or Target when they open once in a while and you will get one. My buddy works at Circuit City in Brookfield and they got 1 60gb and 3 20gb PS3's recently. I do not go shopping that often so if I have seen them on the shelves then they must be getting way easier to find. Hmm or maybe I am just lucky :)

20G seem easier to find, despite being only about 30% of the total supply, because nobody wants them. I kept this one and that was the right choice... So far, the 360 doesn't match the better looking games on this guy. The BEST 360 games look as good as the average PS3 games based on what I see. The launch titles aren't so great, but most of the ones I tried are fun so far. NFS: Carbon, Fight Night 3, Genji and Resistance. Genji is hands down the best looking game I've seen, but game play is a little simple. Resistance looks amazing too, but the game is too straight forward - a pretty standard FPS. Fight Night ROCKS. Carbon is fun, but even with spectacular graphics, it is still gets boring after a while.

Quick funny blurb...

This past Saturday morning, the wife goes out grocery shopping. She comes home with groceries, I go out to help and there is an Xbox360 in the trunk.

I was shocked, since I told her if I had to choose, I definitely want a PS3 instead. So initially I wasn't happy since I thought she was making THE DECISION for me. But alas, I was getting all pissy for nothing as she said I can still get a PS3 when I want.

;)

I got Gears of War and NBA2k7. Both are stellar games. GoW is quite fun and really a great looking game. Same with NBA2k7. On my 56" Sammy, this is quite the experience. I also already networked the 360 to my PC and can stream all my music files on my PC now to my home theatre via my 360. Pretty cool.

I still can't wait to get the PS3, but this was/is definitely nice to have in the meantime and will be great to have for those 360-only games, like Halo 3.

:D
