Front Sound Stage Challenge

Hello folks,

Need a bit of help with getting a decent front sound stage. It seesm like there is somethign I do not have setup correctly..

I am using Axiom M-60V2 for mains, VP150 for center and QS8 for surround. My subwoofer is a pardigm ultracube12 and all of this is driven by Yammy RX-V863. The issue is that I am not happy with my front sound stage. I do not hear the 'across the screen' sound going from one main to the other. I hear all the sound alright but it does not 'travel across my screen' (my TV btw is a Samsung PN50A650). Similalrly, when people are talking, all the sound seems like it is just coming from one spot, the center of my screen.

My M-60s are about 6 feet apart, center channel is right below my TV. The listening spot is about 12 feed from the TV. Surrounds are just behind the listening spot, 7 feet or so above ground. I think there is value in doing so, I can post some pictures of my setup here later today or tomorrow. Has anybody else encountered this situation? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, if I recall correctly, dialog should come from the centre channel. That is, if the characters are appearing centre screen. Off-screen/off-centre voices would come from the other speakers, as appropriate.

As for the front soundstage, perhaps your mains are too close together, relative to the distance from the listening position. Do you have room to spread them apart a bit? Six feet seems a bit close to me. If you don't have room to spread them, can you sit closer? Then listen for a difference.

With your Yamaha

go through the sound menu on your receiver...it will allow you the change speaker distances and a host of other parameters that will change the sound field.....you can also reduce the speaker setting on the center only if it is too dominent...make sure to use the same source material while making the changes, like a given dvd movie that has both dialog and music
