From stereo to surround - what to get??

I have a pair of JBL studio monitors (4408A) and a Sony receiver (STR DA 1000 ES) and love the entire system. I don't have a ton of money, just want to add rear and center speakers and a sub.

Can I keep the JBLs as left and right front channels, and - if so - any suggestions on what to add to give me a nice, but not too pricey home theatre system?
