Faint yellowish line near bottom of my screen

I just got done cleaning my old and aging rear projection tv (pioneer pd-5185)
and I noticed a very faint yellowish line about 2 inches wide across the bottom of the screen. It fades out more in the center of the band and is more noticeable at the edges. The line is more appearant agaisnt a white background. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? I know it can't be burn in. I am the only person who operates the tv. I really don't want a technician to come out because the tv is only worth about 200 dollars.

Prior to noticing the faint line I tweaked out my tv using Video Essentials. I can't believe the difference it made. When I watch DVD's using my Sony DVP S7000 the look almost as good as todays high def tvs , this is why I don't want to invest in a new HDTV yet. Besides, I heard they are coming out with LCD/CRT tv's soon which are supposed to be better than todays plasmas.
I did clean my guns, mirror and lens carefully not to leave any finger prints, so I know that isn't the problem. I did happen to mess with the inner control of the tv (convergance and the RGB nobs) which only a technician was supposed to do. It took me about eight hours to get it back to normal.
One of my friends say it is age and it might be the mirror another said messing with the inside controls may be making it over power itself? Could anyone please help.

While not positive, the adjustments you made may have thrown off the blue gun a little bit. The Red & Green guns firing at the bottom at full power are hitting fine, but the blue gun seems to not be hitting it correctly or has had an adjustment that is tweaking the level at the bottom. Red + Green = Yellow - so a lack of enough blue is the issue at that part of the screen. It does sound like burn in and if you have been watching 4x3 content for years, then an adjustment of your guns could have raised the red & green a little bit. So, they are firing with more power near the bottom of your screen because they are using the 'unused' part of the CRT gun. ALL CRT projectors experience burn in. With a 4x3 projector that does not experience a specific section with burn in, the entire tube will be burned in in the 4x3 shape.

As for LCD - I am not aware of a NEW form of LCD coming to the market. There is already LCD flat panel displays and rear projection displays. As far as I know, those are the only two that are out there and are going to be out there for a long time.

In my opinion a good LCD display from a good manufacturer produces a crisper, cleaner image than plasma does... at a premium price.

thanks for the info BMW

Thanks for the info. I think that yellow may have happend after I was messing around on the inside of the television. I will try to tweak it out.\

I read the information about a new style LCD in PC World Magazine. It is called Surface Conduction Eletron Emitter Display or SED it is going to blend the best of LCD and CRT. There is a manufacturer called, "Genoa" that is going to use Multi Primary Color displays.

That SED stuff seems pretty cool. Still sounds like it may suffer from burn-in issues, so I hope they address that VERY early on. A news release says there will be a prototype displayed at CES this Winter, so I hope someone gets some good pics and details on it.

Good luck with your set!
