got the screen I need - dalite was very helpful. dalite Tensioned cosmopolitan electrol HDTV format #79027c 78" x 139" Da-Mat, **2 inch blackdrop** This means the bottom of the screen is going to be only 2 feet from the floor (I'm limited by a sprinkler for mounting height of 110 inches at the top of the projector case. 7 inches for the projector case and minimum 2 inch blackdrop gets me to 101 inches. the screen is 78 so that leaves me 23 inches from the floor. I did the math - if the seating is staggered left right I should be ok.
Cool, man. Is Da-mat a higher contrast version? I've done a little browsing around on your behalf for both screen and player. Some people seem to really like the CinemaVision fabric, including one fellow who tried over 30 different fabric samples. However, surely the applications will differ, as well as PJ tech (he was using Sony SXRD).

That screen is 159", or slightly more than 75 sq ft, one of the standard Dalite sizes (and perhaps biggest). One thing to consider is how very heavy this might be, which leads to how you will mount it. My own screen was VERY heavy (also because HP is naturally heavy; emulsified glass), and it took three people to mount. I underestimated how much closer it had to be to floor, because I basically needed hooks that allowed double screws for this much weight, and well to accommodate these hooks, it had to come lower from ceiling. Just a word of warning.

Dalite is very respected, known for good build and reliability, as well as great CS. However, every once in a while people do complain about wrinkling or cupping at the corners, and the couple/few examples I read were all after three years. You hear sometimes that Dalite still helps out, and other times where they didn't help (outside of warranty period).

I don't mean to sidetrack you, but just another thing to learn about if only for protection of screen.... SMX microperfed AT screens can now be fitted with these manually placed masking panels. This is very nice for many people who balk at the extremely high prices of automated masking systems. Anyways, if you did get that screen with panels, you could just cover all or almost all of the screen (maybe they can custom cut). There was discussion is they would work for other screens, and it appears they won't, and so people hope that other manufacturers like Carada or Dalite will follow suit. Just FYI, I think you're on a good track . . .

but where is the center speaker going? Do not put it on the floor. If it MUST go on the floor, I would put acoustic treatments there, and beefy ones, but then the center will too raised perhaps. OTOH, some super expensive centers might have been designed to work ok on the floor, I think of B&Ws top of the line ($$$$) but I'm not sure about that really.

Now - any universal all region blu-ray players?
Whatever you choose, read carefully. Some only are region free on DVD, even as bluray player, only a small handful made originally as region free (others modified).

These two can be code hacked to be region free, if they don't come that way already?

Or choose BDP of choice, and use a mod kit from the following company. Even an AVS mod gave their performance the thumbs up.

This is all above and beyond. You're drinking free at rebar - forever.

I talked to the dalite rep and he INSISTED that I didn't get the high power (even though it's more expensive). I told him the exact projector and setup and he was almost tearful in keeping me away from it, saying the reduced viewing angle would kill the picture for many of my guests and that the HP was really meant for home theater setups. The HP is specifically designed for when the viewers are almost all on the same plane. He said I absolutely did not need the additional gain with the BenQ 890 - even if there were to be ambient light. I hope he's right - here is the link to the surface details:

The two center speakers will be mounted horizontally (rotatable horns) above the screen. There is room on each side of the sprinkler pipe.

Not for a room that size...
Your going to be wanting something a bit bigger, effecient that offers more output.

This may be a better fit for you in that huge room..
I think this is a pretty darn good deal, and would likely serve your purposes pretty darn well...

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=13210

You'll still need to work something out for the Bass region, and be aware that if you are looking for decent amount of output in a 10K cu ft room - I would suggest something along the lines of a Pair of Danley DTS-10's... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=17384218#post17384218

Danley will be marketing these for $3-4000 each from what understand
They were a kit for around $1K, but I think I know someone who may be selling a pair of them - too big for his needs... Would probably fit your needs quite well and all this would come under your budget....

Another way to go would be to look at some pro-audio speakers that can be found at PartsExpress or other proaudio dealer places, it doesn't seem that you are looking for extreme SQ in a room like that, but at least better then average products can be found at relatively decent costs...

Local Craigslist will also yield some good results for proaudio gear to save some money...

WooHoo! That's it, I'm moving to Brooklyn!

Thanks for sharing the rep's input, and the informative link. To be clear, in case I wasn't before, I also agree the HP is not the desired solution. I believe it would only become a serious candidate in the case that you needed a screen that was both retractable, yet without tensioning. And to be a little clearer on the wrinkling/cupping event that may* occur, that is specifically with tab tensioning.

We look forward to the build! What is the timeline for getting the orders in, and having the build complete?
