Preferred digital connection

Contest Questions:
1) What type of digital connection do you prefer? TOSlink or S/PDIF?
2) What is the connection type you use with your system? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?
3) Which connection sounds the best? TOSlink or S/PDIF?
4) What types of connection does your audio equipment have? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?

Responses:
1. I prefer a digital coaxial connection.
2. I use only digital coaxial connections in my system (which includes a DVD player, CD player, and digital cable box as digital source components).
3. I have not compared the two connections (but have read that digital coaxial can have a "higher bandwidth capacity" and therefore has the potential dynamic frequency range to sound better).
4. My DVD player has both connectors; my digital cable box has only a digital coaxial output; and my CD player has both.

1) What type of digital connection do you prefer? TOSlink or S/PDIF?
I prefer a S/PDIF connection simply because it is a sturdier interconnect and has a better connection (it won't wiggle loose over time).

2) What is the connection type you use with your system? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?
I use both, but only have a TOSlink connection because it is the only option on some equipment (TV, PS2) for surround sound. That and my AVR only has 2 S/PDIF inputs.

3) Which connection sounds the best? TOSlink or S/PDIF?
They both sound identical to me. I am unable to tell any difference between the two (My interconnects are all 6' or under).

4) What types of connection does your audio equipment have? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?
My reciever has both, but more TOSlink (5) than S/PDIF (2).

Thanks

Jack

1) I prefer S/PDIF because it is just easier to use. No little cap to lose, and if you have spare cables they can be used for other things (I know, blasphemy)

2) I use both because my receiver has a few inputs for each but I have them all used up. Luckily most devices offer both.

3) I can't tell a difference.

4) My receiver also offers both, but more TOSlink than S/PDIF.

1) Depends on the compenent, for some reason I feel certain outputs perform beter depending on the compenet. TOSlink for my cable box, S/PDIF for my dvd player.
2) Both.
3) Depends on the compenent.
4) Both.

1) What type of digital connection do you prefer? TOSlink or S/PDIF?

I prefer S/PDIF because it can use the same cables as those used in other HT applications, and it is much easier to connect, especially if you are reaching around back from the front of your equipment.

2) What is the connection type you use with your system? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?

TOSlink, because it seems every piece of hardware comes with that standard. Also, my receiver has more TOSlink

3) Which connection sounds the best? TOSlink or S/PDIF?

Have never heard a difference

4) What types of connection does your audio equipment have? TOSlink, S/PDIF or both?

Both, mostly
