What if any 1080p gear do you own?
None, but I will be purchasing a new TV within the next 6-12 months and it will be a deciding factor.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?
No, but HDMI switching will be a factor.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

I have never seen native 1080p content, but up close I see glaring differences (pixel size) between 720p and 1080i.

1. I own a Sony KDS60A2000 - 1080p SXRD, the Oppo DV 981HD

2. Not really.. 720p is fine for most uses at the moment.

3. The jump to 1080 from 720 (or lower) is noticeable, but I'm not sure if I've seen/compared 1080p to 1080i.

Westinghouse LVM-37w3, Mac Mini.

We don't watch enough broadcast TV to upgrade to even 1080i digital cable/satellite. Waiting on adding either 1080p optical disc format for now.

I have run the Mac Mini at 720p as well as 1080p. Definitely enough of a difference to stay at 1080p. Also running an Oppo DVD Player uprezzing to 1080i. Looks much better letting the Westy deinterlace to 1080p than sending 720 and letting the Westy uprez.

What, if any, 1080p gear do you own? Samsung upconverting DVD Player with HDMI

1080p enough reason alone to upgrade? I have an old 36" tube TV that is on the way out (Anyone remember the Gateway Destination HTPC's from '98?) I'm looking at the Samsung 5087 1080p unit, but waiting for the price to drop some more.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i? I haven't seen it, but I believe I would think it better, simply because I mentally know it's better.

1. I do not own any 1080p equipment.
2. I would upgrade to 1080p except I do not want to deal with uncracked DRM. When I have control of my own playback and media, then I will upgrade.
3. Yes, 1080p does in fact look noticeably better to me than 720p, and depending on content characteristics 1080i.

1. Only an XBox 360

2. No.

3. I have seen a few games on my 360 run at 1080p via VGA to a 1920x1080 monitor. I noticed that the game was nice and sharp, but had a lower frame rate as it had too much data to render.

Comments... Yeah, I know you didn't ask, but... 1080p would look great on my 106" screen, but I am pretty happy with a 720p projector right now. Also, there just isn't enough hardware that can actually produce a good solid 1080p signal. Only a hand full of consumer devices can have a 1080p source and actually output at the same resolution. The game consoles, as cool and powerful as they are, aren't really powerful enough to push that many pixels fast enough. HDTV won't be in 1080p anytime soon, and most sports are filmed in 720p, right? I like the bleeding edge sometimes, and can handle a few bugs, but 1080p is beyond that... It's more like the cliffs of despair! It's an awesome view at the top, but it's pretty darn hard to get there!!

I currently own a DLP TV that can display 1080p
1080p is not convincing enough to have me upgrade other components.
I did notice a difference over 720p, but not 1080p

1. I currently do not own any 1080p gear as my TV is only 1080i. Plus I"m waiting for HD/BluRay combo devices to come down in price.
2. At this point no. If my tv failed I would definately upgrade at that point.
3. I have not seen the pictures side by side in a setting I trust to give an opinion on that.

1080p Survey

Contest Questions:

What if any 1080p gear do you own? Response: No, my TV is not (yet) HDTV-compatible, and my DVD player can only upscale to 1080i or 720p (though my 1080p-compatible HDMI A/V receiver can theoretically switch a 1080p signal).

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment? Response: Yes, I plan to eventually upgrade what I can to accommodate 1080p for every suitable A/V component.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i? Response: I have seen 1080p content on two occasions. However, whether 1080p content represents a noticable improvement is hard to say, since I have never witnessed a true, simultaneous A/B comparison between 1080p versus either 720p or 1080i content. But, given a choice -- and the corresponding budget -- I would naturally select native 1080p anyday over either 720p or 1080i content.

What if any 1080p gear do you own?

Just my Oppo 981.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

No way. My JVC RPTV is 1080i and only 4 years old. Cost/benefit ratio is too low to upgrade right now.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Have not had the chance to see any 1080p yet.

I own a PS3. I think 1080p is a great reason to upgrade my old gear. The movies in 1080p are much improved over the older formats.

1. No 1080p gear yet, but I am in the market for a front projector. I would consider a 1080p projector if the price comes down in the upcoming months.

2. Not enough by itself to upgrade.

3. Have not compared yet, but it is the holy grail.
