What if any 1080p gear do you own?

I don't own any 1080p gear.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

Not to me, but I havent started seriously researching just yet.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

I havent compared the formats yet. I do plant to start looking latter this year.

What if any 1080p gear do you own? My oppo dvd player can up convert to 1080p and soon a ps3 or xbox 360 havent decided which yet

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment? not currently, although a tv upgrade is currently being looked into.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i? Close up, like I have a habit of looking at stores, yes. With a little distance I haven't truly compared.

yes, I believe so

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Yes, I think it looks somewhat better, but it also depends on the viewing distance.

I do not currently own any 1080P gear, my DVD player can output 1080i and my 32" LCD is 768p. For my current display size and seeting distance, I would not get any benifit from 1080p so I don't plan to upgrade. When prices are more reasonable, I think my existing display might benefit from a 1080i or 1080p source like BluRay or HD-DVD.

I own a PS3, so right now I have one of the only 1080p sources on the market.

Is 1080p alone enough reason for me to upgrade?
Since I have a front projector, the answer is yes. I specfically have been putting off any upgrades to my projector over the last couple of years with cheap 720p hitting the market because 1080p was coming.

I not only want 1080p - I want 1080/24p with a matching display that can handle it properly (48/72/96/120hz).

Did I notice an improvement? Mostly when using front projectors, yes. The difference over 720p/1080i HD programming is not phenomenal, especially over 1080i since it scales nicely and a proper projector can take it back to 1080/24p with 3:2 anyway. But, the actual resolution jump with a quality source is significant and really adds to the depth of what I see on screen.

PS3, HTPC, but no display capable of outputting 1080p

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

Not currently, but when the prices drop a little more (mainly projectors), then probably

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Yes, but not earth shattering, like the jump from 480p to 720p/1080i

I don't own any 1080p gear.

Maybe later on I'll get a front projector with 1080p since it's the only way I'll, probably, see the difference.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Didn't compare yet.

My HDTV, the Sony KDS-50A2000, and my DVD player, an Oppo DV-981HD.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?
Yes, in the case of my DVD player--I just bought it within the past month. I'd like to purchase a BD or HDDVD player, but they are prohibitively expensive for me at this time.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?
I have not seen any true HD 1080p content, such as that from HDDVD or Blu-Ray, but, in the case of my Oppo DVD player, there is significant visual improvement over my previous player.

Samsung 1080p 40 inch LCD

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

Nope, but I spent a few extra bucks on the Samsung for a new tv in the exercise room to get 1080p.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Hard to tell on smaller tvs. The only two I can compare are my 60 inch 1080i Sony LCD and the Samsung. I am concerned enough about future technology being better able to take advantage of the resolution.

Zip, none, nada. Will probably buy an XA2 for downstairs so I can keep the A1 upstairs.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

Nope, PJ price is prohibitive and my 32" LCD upstairs is small enough to not be necessary.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

Not particularly.

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?

Not yet. Once the Hi Def DVD war is settled and the prices for 1080p players come down I'll probably upgrade to 1080p equipment.

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?

I've seen 1080p, but haven't had a chance to do a side by side yet.

I own a 1080p Projector, a 1080p LCD, a HTPC outputting at 1080p/60, a denon dvd-1930CI upconverting to 1080p

Is 1080p alone enough of a reason to upgrade your current non-1080p equipment?
No, but in most cases the 1080p products are of higher quality in more areas than just screen resolution (improved contrast ratio, better audio, etc.)

If you have seen 1080p content did you really notice an improvement over 720p and 1080i?
I haven't seen native 1080p content on a screen big enough to notice a difference.

I haven't seen any "true" 1080p material displayed yet. however, the next display i buy will likely be 1080p for those future purchases.

1) No 1080p gear, although my receiver will pass a 1080p signal.
2) No. Since AV gear depreciates so quickly, I'll keep my existing TV until it dies. In 4 years, it has depreciated (based on local classifieds) approximately 85%.
3) Didn't do a side-by-side comparison, but 1080p is more noticeable on a big screen, sitting closer, and high motion scenes. Without those specific conditions, 720p and 1080i is plenty to keep me happy.
