Hi,

would you get a pair of the EMP Impression E5Bi Bookshelf Speakers for $200
or save up for a pair of Usher S-520's? The ushers have many reviews and proven to sound great.

the E5Bi, never heard of it or seen any reviews. Great looking burlwood though, very attractive to me :)

btw, any idea how long these prices are good for?

Thx
You are asking the right questions. I don't think there are any answers yet.
I think your options are:
1) Buy and audition these speakers now at the risk of losing one-way shipping cost if they don't work out for you (I believe there is a audition/return period).
2) Wait and hope the sale will continue until more assessment (reviews) has been made.
3) Buy the Ushers in the knowledge that you are getting what is generally considered an excellent speaker.

Received mine on Friday, the E5Ti's

Received mine on Friday, the E5Ti's, they were two replace an old set of JBL L5 towers. Unfortunately, my wife thinks they look like plastic. I kind of have to agree, while the color is nice they in no way look like wood. Do not know yet if they sound better than the JBL L5's, more to come if my wife doesn't convince me to ship them back first thing Monday!
Here are my JBL specs, have I screwed up? What does anyone think?

First Manufactured 1992
Last Manufactured 1996
General
Recommended Power Amplifier Range 35 - 350 watts, per speaker
Nominal Impedance 6 ohms
Woofer 8" composite
Mid-Bass Driver 6.5" composite
Midrange Driver 5" mineral filled polypropylene
Tweeter 1" pure titanium dome
Frequency Response 35Hz - 27kHz
Crossover Frequency(ies) 170Hz, 900Hz, 4kHz
Sensitivity 90dB (1 watt/1 meter)

I suppose RBH dealers don't have any of these around do they? Or maybe something similar? The reason I ask is b/c I'm one of the few who happens to have an RBH dealer within driving distance. I'm sure they are trying to keep the RBH and EMP names separate, but figured I'd ask since it's probably worth the 45 minute drive to go listen.

Um NO. Most RBH dealers hate the fact that RBH has an online brand so don't count on it.

I don't think there is an equivlant RBH product to the EMP E5Ti's. Go listen to the 61 SE/R and tell me what you think!;) I'm considering them but I don't know if I'll be able to audition them at all.

If I can make it over there one day, I'll let you know what I think. :)

BTW Matt,
here's the place: http://www.audioexchangeofraleigh.com/

I haven't been to one yet, but it appears they do alot of car stereo installations and such. For home audio, it appears that RBH is their main speaker brand.

Returning mine

I am Returning mine, plastic look, plastic sound. Talked to EMP today for a return autho number......this is a very expensive lesson!

Since the 30 day return policy was mentioned, I have to say that the restocking fee pretty well eliminates the value of a return policy for me. When I saw the EMP package deals that are currently being offered, I was ready to take the plunge since I could return them if the wife hated them (WAF is a big deal since they're going in the main family area). However, when I saw that there was a restocking fee PLUS return shipping (which is substantial), an in-home audition, which is the only way to hear these speakers, is not feasible: it will significantly reduce my speaker budget if they're not acceptable. I'll have to stick with Etailers who don't charge restocking fees.

I understand why Audioholics charges such fees, but there are plenty of other sellers who don't use this tool to limit returns.
I checked with the Audioholics store last week and was told there is no restocking fee on the EMP towers. Just FYI.

All this discussion of the new EMP E5Ti speakers has piqued my interest. Enough so that I actually decided to log into the forums for the first time in years!

I find it interesting that the only claims I see against these speakers so far come from someone who ignores common Internet forum etiquette by posting the same question multiple times in multiple threads and then harshly criticizes the speakers without really explaining what is wrong with them.

I'm hoping Tom's review is available before the price increase. The 30 day guarantee is nice, but since it still requires paying return shipping I'm not very quick to jump.

Have you called them? I have three dealers in my area, but none of them stocked the 61-SE I was interested in, and they would only order if I bought them. They were polite about it, but basically, they were strictly into home installations and not a showroom. YMMV, but call first!

Could you please elaborate on the negative aspects that you have encounter? Every other post here has nothing but positive feedback on this speakers. Your opinion can't be questioned, but please explain in more detail, the reason for your return.

Thanks!
