I don't see any measurements stating the >500W is RMS. Only that it's capable of hitting >500W with a specific THD+N value.

I would never be using it at 500W continuous, nor full bandwidth (i.e. white noise). The Magnepan 1.6's are only rated at 250W power handling, but if I switched the ST-500 over to my Onix Reference 3's then I might give it transients of 550W while watching movies.

To address the OPs issue. I believe that it's possible that tweeter distortion may be an issue. I've noticed on most speakers that use metalic tweeter dome construction that they seem to get a bit squashed when fed lots of power. This could cause the presentation to fall apart quite a bit.

It CLEARLY states "The ICEpower1000ASP is a high quality audio power
solution capable of generating 1000W RMS output
directly from selectable 115/230 volt mains."
Didn't find that datasheet when I was looking. So it can produce 1000W RMS for something, but maybe not for white noise.

I'm sure if someone just sent an email to W4S or D-Sonic they can provide an answer for which, if any, of their amps should be able to provide sustained 500W or 1000W of white noise.

Regardless, I'm not about to run my speakers at a sustained 500W or 1000W. :p
