Well friends, I had my house broken into over the weekend and one of my amps was stolen (IPS-1) The insurance company is going to replace it but, they are telling me the IPS-1 is no longer available and that they want to replace it with the UPA-7. My question is will that be a downgrade from my IPS-1??

I don't know the answer, but I just wanted to say that I'm very sorry. I remember your theater, as it's hard to forget! I hope that the amp was the only thing stolen from the HT (I am afraid to wish that it would have been the only thing stolen from the whole house).

Oh no, they got just about all of it.
2) Deftech BP7000SC
1) CLR 3000
4) BPVX/P
1) Supercube Referance Sub
1) Emotiva IPS-1
1) PS3
27) blue ray movies
and some misc tools :(:(:(

Good thing is they are going to be replacing all the Deftech stuff with brand new, number for number. I might end up selling all the new gear and using the money to go a different route.

Wow, they stole some big stuffs there - 165lbs each of the BP7000SC, The SC Reference Sub is another 150lbs?

Did they take the Display (TV or Projector)?

Yeah, replace the SC Reference with the SC Trinity. :D

And check out ATI amps on Audiogon. They sell some new ATI amps too @ 50% off retail.

wow, that really sucks... with all that gear you didn't have an alarm system? As far as the amp goes, just get the value of the IPS-1 ~$1200 instead of the UPA-7 since I know the IPS-1 is discontinued, I still think the IPS-1 is the better amp. The BPVX-P has also been discontinued, what are they replacing those with?

Yeah I had an alarm on the house but it took the police almost 30 mins to respond. Ugggg well I'm pretty sure they said they could get all the speakers including the BPVX/P. The insurance company is considering replacing the IPS-1 with the XPA-5 and the XPA-2 YEAH!!!!!

did the theives raid your candy counter as well?

Yeah, get the XPA-5 and XPA-2, that would be a good solution. I can't believe even though the alarm was going off, the theives still stuck around long enough to take all that gear, and I know how heavy those speakers and that amp are. They must have had several people in on this job.

Nope they didn't get my candy....lol But I have a feeling that it was someone that lives on my block to know when we are not home. I'm sure it will be a matter of time until they find the gear for sale at some pawn shop or something. Luckily I had all the serial number written down!!

The IPS-1 is the better amp, but the XPA-5 combined with an XPA-2 as someone already suggested is a great option.

David, if you might swap out for different stuff, I might consider commercial products. There is pre-fabbed kit that I am thinking a lot about buying from Danley, and while the time line is probably too rushed for you, the DTS10 is selling for 1k until the end of this month. It will then jump to 3x the price. I think someone says it's the equivalent of 6x PB13s, though that could be BS. It doesn't start rolling off until 11hz, which to me is insane.

What's nice about products like this is their size and weight; harder to steal. The DTS10 is 60"x42"x16" if I remember correctly, and weighs over 300 lbs.

I want to say again that I'm really sorry. Over a year ago, my friend was burglarized, and lots of stuff was stolen, including a PJ that she used with her art. I started a thread here about a replacement PJ/gift, and a different thread about how to catch a theif. Her BF, myself, and my brother tried to do a stakeout on a setup meeting/purchase. His computer was also stolen, and happened to be of a very specific and rare design (he only found 10 for sale in CONUS). The guy was a no show. We found out quite a bit about this "suspect" (there is no way we can be 100% sure it was him), but a lot of things sort of pointed towards this person. See, the police wouldn't do anything until we had solid evidence, and getting the computer would be that evidence. The main hurdle was that there were surely pics of the owner on the computer, but the owner had to be the one meeting because only he could recognize the computer. We wonder if he was recognized in advance, from a distance.

Well I had a pair of the Super Cube reference subs in my current HT, so I really had no issue with bass. But thanks for the ideas!
