DVI Cable Length

I am using a 13ft. DVI cable between my Cable box and TV. Should I change it to a 6ft. cable for better performance or is the 13footer OK?
How long can a DVI cable be before performance drops?

I've heard 25' with many companies (we have yet to verify with measurements) boasting they can pull off 50-100'

Since I was already in for $100 for the shorter cable, I figured an extra $30 for a 13' was resonable. It gives me more cable to tangle with the other cables.

I've used a 50' DVI for a sony XBR plasma. It came paired with a sony proprietary control cable for its outboard tuner/media box.

The cable looked great.

This is probably a YMMV situation. Depends on the electronics at the source and the destination. If it looks good to you, then go with it, but as always, the shorter your cables can be, the better for quality and reliability. No signal gets *stronger* over distance.

With DVI to computer LCD displays, most manufacturers recommend staying under 20' and I've read that the displays will start to show un-subtle degradation in picture quality. But even the lowly 1280x1024 LCD attached to my *4 is working a higher data rate than most HD signals currently available. You'd have to go 1080p to exceed that. You may find that your current length is fine for now, but sometime in the future, you may have to add an in-line signal booster or shorten the run.
