I need a DVD recorder. I was planning on copying my many hours of old VHS home video using my PC but at about 8 hours per tape (DVD authoring) that is out of the question.

I want a decent set-top DVD recorder that will record a good quality picture and has a stereo tuner. Is it possible to get what I want for around $100? I assume Panasonic, Pioneer, and Toshiba have good models. What about the cheap no names like Ilo from Wal-Mart?

My old tapes are degrading fast and I want to save them before it's too late without shelling out a huge amount of cash.

Costco had two models when I went shopping for a combo DVR/VCR this week-a Liteon for around $200 and a Panasonic for $290. I bought the Panny and am happy with it-it has many feature I probably won't use, but it does a good job of transferring tapes to DVDs, which was also my primary objective. I realize that both of these are out of your target price range, but I thought I would share the info with you anyway.

Thank you for the reply. Since I wasn't getting any replies here, I posted a thread at AVS and it looks like the Panasonic ES15 is just what I'm looking for at about $170.

Rember if you record to DVD for 6/8 hours you will lose qauilty. It may even look like copy of VHS with VHS qaulity. But it won't degrade.
